How difficult to remove and replace transfer case

Get a friend or two. Ask me how I know:biggrin1:. In my excitement to get my duals installed (around 11pm by myself:noidea
, I put my jack underneath it and started unbolting. Tried to lower it with a little finesse. Didn't go as planned! Bastard started to roll off of the jack. Nearly sharted myself to keep it from falling to the floor. All in all a pretty simple job if you got a little help.

Rent or buy a transmission jack to avoid the above. I did my clutch on jackstands solo and I would hate to think about trying it without one. I only had a HF cheapie, but it did the job. It was a major challenge, but I did it. You will need a wide variety of extensions to reach all the bolts. The set of wobble extensions from HF with 1/4'', 3/8'', and 1/2'' was a life saver. They really made them hard to reach.

You can drain it, or it will drain itself. One is messier than the other.
A trans jack isn't necessary if you have a buddy, but I'd be sure to have one or the other. I've swapped out my 1st gen tcase many times by myself, but the 3rd gen case is definitely heavier.

Trans jack, budddy. Phew...I pulled two and installed the one without using either one. Lol just down a beer or two. And bear hug that *****.
It is heavy, but you can get it done in a pinch without.
Trust me. I'm a professional. Well not really. At all. But I can pretend right?

Damn.
You need to get inside the cab and either take the shift boot off the t-case, and take the shifter out.
You're going to have to take the whole shift boot off, because the manuals are one piece of rubber.
The 12 or 14mm bolts are on the back of the t-case.
Take those bolts out, and the t-case will be on the trans by the coupler.
Wiggle it a little bit and it'll slide right out.
If you have any upper body strength, laying under the trans and t-case will be fine. The t-case weighs about 60lbs. Just gently lower it onto your stomach, and reposition your hands so you can gently lay it on the ground.
Setting up Duals, yeah, you'll want a buddy there with you, or a trans jack.
Those *****es are heavy....

Thanks Guys, I got the t-case out last night. Took 2 hours between my Fiancee and I. Fairly straight forward with the instructions I've recieved.
Tonight I install a new one assuming it'll fit.
for future search reference:
-I needed a 10mm socket to remove the plate holding down the rubber shifter boot from inside the cab.
-Needed a 12mm socket to remove 4 bolts attaching to the transfer case shifter from inside the cab.
-Needed 14mm wrench and socket/extension to remove rear/front driveshafts.
-Needed 12mm wrench and socket with a few extensions and a swivel to remove the 8 bolts holding the transfer case to the the transmission extension housing. **Note that one bolt can only be removed with a wrench due to clearance issues caused by the mount between the frame crossmember and transmission extension housing.**
-Remove 2 plastic electrical connections to t-case for speed and 4H/L indicator light. Located on top of t-case.
-Remove a bolt on the t-case which holds a bracket routing a O2 sensor wire. (right side of t-case)
-Replace Transmission output seal since you're in there already and mine got a little mangled.
-A jack was really helpful, a extra hand as well. Doable without them but I'd rather not.
