How do I figure out if I have the larger brakes/Calipers on my SR5

I was searching some posts and I read that some SR5's came with the larger brake/caliper setup. How to I figure out which ones I have on my 2003 SR5?

On the 03 models the SE model has larger brakes that require a 17" (vice 16") rim (these were standard). Not sure if this applies to the Limited ro if it was optional there. If you have 16" rims then your have the smaller diameter brake rotors. Rotor diameters were listed in another post here but was unable to quickly locate.

The SR5 17" rims were optional. The SE and Limited had 17" rims standard. Try measuring your rotors and that should give you an indication if you've got the bigger rotors or not:

From what I have been reading here in the forum the "rub" is bigger calipers. If you can find a 16" rim put it on and if it rubs the calipers you have the bigger brakes. Probably not much help but wait a little bit, there are guys here who can tell you for sure with measurements etc. I also heard somewhere that all spare tire rims are 16".

No, my 03 Limited came with same aluminum full size 17" spare. 16" ones were prolly SR5 only.

I can tell you for sure my 03 Limited has the smaller brakes, someday i might upgrade the rotors and caliper to a SE model one for better braking. I remember the SE's came with like a 13.3" rotors and normals were 12.6" or something.

I got a qoute for $750 for the set, which includes, rotors, calipers, and factory pads. To me thats cheap, compared to my 300ZX's $3500 brakes setup.

Not bad really, whats up with the ZX platinum rotors?

It's probably not worth it unless you guys do a lot of towing. The larger brakes are going to help ward off brake fade. They don't help as much with stopping distances.

hahaha, Not quite they do have titanium pistons and are 14.25" AP Racing 6 piston brakes, gotta love the curved vanes, 2pc hats and the 35.6mm of girth

I do occasional heavy towing, but you know Los Angeles traffic with all that stop and go, i need them brakes.

I have an '03 SR5 V8 and it has the larger 13.3 rotors.....I know this because I used the ordering screen on FrozenRotors.com and ordered the incorrect size.

I don't know if it's because of the V8, but my SR5 does have larger rotors.

If you bought it used someone prolly upgraded it. SR5's never came with 13.3 rotors, only sport editions. They didnt even give the top of the line Limited 13.3" brakes
