How do I know it has KDSS?

I just followed the link to the Toyota Owners site, input my VIN, and looked up my vehicle’s specs. Oddly the KDSS didn’t show up in the specs. So take the “verification” with a grain of salt.

You did say ORP (Off Road Pro) so NO, it does not have KDSS. It does however have an upgraded suspension since it is a PRO. Like Fox shocks...

IMO KDSS or Not they both will handle great. KDSS only has a slight advantage in specific scenarios. I love having KDSS, but a Pro suspension also has its advantages over non or KDSS.

Nothing erroneously added, but omitted were:

• KDSS
• All weather floor liner and cargo tray package
• Black exhaust tip
• Black-out emblem overlays
• Roof rack cross bars
• Door edge guards

All these items were included, however, on a spec sheet that the dealer sent me when I ordered the vehicle, entitled “Toyota 2022 4Runner Model 8672A Spec Sheet.”

ORP is "Off-Road Premium" not Pro. The Pro is just called TRD Pro.

Look at the sway bars...a non-KDSS one will have a simple vertical strut connecting the sway bar to the frame at both ends. A KDSS one will have a super fat sway bar connected to a hydraulic piston covered by an accordion boot on the Driver's side and a simple strut to connect it to the frame and control arm on the Passenger side. Does the one you're looking at have an after market suspension upgrade that could explain why it handles well? I test drove our nephew's 2018 SR5 (non-KDSS) and was very disappointed at how it handled compared to our old '99 SR5. Our new ORP with KDSS handles MUCH better, though it still sufferers from a little nose dive if we hit the brakes suddenly.

Pretty sure it doesn't have any dealer-added aftermarket suspension upgrade. Just checked the window sticker, no KDSS listed. I know on the driver's side on the KDSS-equipped models, there is a big skid plate with a cylinder underneath and that is where you have to watch about snow/ice/salt/mud getting packed in and rusting it out. You can clean it by removing the skid plate. Well mine doesn't have this.

I get a bit lost when people start talking about struts and sway bars and the like, but in looking at pictures of the underside of the KDSS ones, mine is different. No vertical piston in an accordion boot, just some horizontal accordion boots.

So I had read somewhere that the Off Road trim 4Runners have a stiffer suspension than the SR5's, and I assumed that maybe this is why mine drives so nice (no KDSS). But then at another forum, I read that both the SR5 and the Off Road have the exact same suspension if no KDSS. However within that same thread, a guy said he had test driven an SR5 and it had huge body roll whereas he test drove an Off Road and it was a night and day difference. He said his Off Road that he bought is not a KDSS as far as he knows. But this is my exact experience as well. I test drove a 2019 SR5 at the dealership and that thing was a big boat, whereas my Off Road is much more planted, but is absolutely not any KDSS. So I'm wondering if there is some difference between the suspensions of the two that just aren't known about?

Doesn't look like it has kdss. Skid plate doesn't look like it has a cut out for kdss piston travel.

The thing behind the wheel is just a brace found on all 5th gens.

Maybe the listing degraded the 360 view where you can't see the skid plate cut out and I'm wrong

I don't see the rear sway bar link in front of the rear wheels either. Rear sway bar link is visible in the wheel well on Non KDSS vehicles.

I’ve asked. Carvana has terrible customer service and they can’t take any more photos it’s crazy. So you’re inferring maybe it does actually have KDSS? I mean it’s a crapshoot, it’s annoying they can’t just provide more photos to confirm or deny

It has a hydraulic ram connected to the passenger side of the sway bars and a fixed link on the driver side. Bend down if you can and look underneath the truck. The front skid is also different with kdss. If you plan on lifting and off roading your truck I wouldn't get kdss. It's worthless and just in the way after lifting an inch or two.

I agree. using the 360° view, I can't see the cut-out in the skidplate for KDSS.

"Maybe" is the key word. It doesn't show a kdss cutout on the skid plate but it also doesn't show the non-kdss rear swaybar link in the wheel well.
It is a crapshoot.

Absolutely but pay the $1,190 non-refundable shipping fee which isn’t going to happen. I’ve already gone up the chain through customer service to a manager and no dice. No more photos and no refunding that shipping fee. Terrible experience with them, not worth it
