How do you pay for your mods?

I constantly struggle with coming up with extra cash to pay for my mods.

Here lately I've been exercising to make some extra cash. I also detail a few cars here and there, build picnic tables and children's playsets and I still occasionally build/install Subaru WRX engines.

What do you do to support your mod habit?

Hide money from the wife. Slowly.

It's called "she money". It's that money that she doesn't know about.

I divert a small amount of money over to my Paypal account every so often, and pay for things that way. It never shows up on my credit card or bank statements.

This is how I pay for mods.

I do the same thing from my husband :)

Everytime the check comes to the bank I take out an extra little bit, but he has no idea since I deal with the finances!
I use to get an extra $20 or so back when I would go grocery shopping.
 
First- I have no wife to answer to anymore.

Second- The GF and I are in a competition on who has the best 4runner. Granted she is winning because she had the 5speed E-Locker :argue:

Third- I try and shop wisely for parts. Talk to other Toyota owners. You would be amazed at the deals you can get for there extra parts for 4runner etc.

Fourth- You only live once, enjoy what makes you happy.

Can I marry you instead? that way we wouldn't have to "hide money". :D

I'm looking for a second job. I need money to support my habbit, and the gf refuses to "invest in the truck"(but she can invest 7K in some :girl: )

If I had 7K, my Runner would be just about where I wanted it.

thisssssssssssss. I racked up 72 hours in the last month and while I haven't done anything other than work, my lift is sitting in my house and I'm contemplating wheels or a bumper now.
 
I'm in college working at a dealership. Based on my income, I'm just able to afford fees and bills for two trucks. I save $20-100 each paycheck and use the money to make more money.

Junkyard parts - buying them cheap and selling for a profit (half off days are the best)

Part outs - parting toyota 4x4s usually ends with 2-300% profit, plus a multitude of usable parts (My last 5 speed swap was technically free, plus I scored a bed for a trailer project)

Side jobs - fixing the neighbors car, painting wheels for a coworker, installing mods, etc.

I never understood this one. When I was married we both contributed to the bills, and the emergency fund then anything left over was spent on anything we wanted.

This was part of my strategy on my Subaru STi. It got expensive quickly.

This sounds a lot like my current situation, except I don't have the space needed to part out vehicles.
 
They know me at the local sperm bank by my first name.

I spend money on mods as need be, meaning I don't drop much green on stuff that I can't recoup when I sell it.

I have done well during Super Bowls as well as in the stock market and in land purchases. Fixing other people's cars brings in cash as well.
 
Work a lot and save what I can for what I want. And most of all, shop hard for those deals and if I can make/install mods I'll do that to save money. That is how I afford mods at least.
 
Typically it's "Hey Hon, what do you think of a new ______ for the truck? It'll be safer with aftermarket ________ ." to which she replies "Good idea."

Always use the safety comment.

I feel sorry for anyone whose wife isn't a fan of your truck.

I'll see if I can find some classy ones. She just had it done thursday. the real problem I have is finding a decent "before" for a comparison...

She is going to be hurting for the next month. Now the good thing for you. You re going to have to help massage them into place for her so they set correct. I'm sure you have been told this by the Doc that did the work. Just take care of her in her time of pain and I'm sure you will be rewarded in the end.
