How do you post text interspersed with pictures for a DIY (What am I doing wrong?)

It would be better if there was a 'spot' that nobody read (a testing section of the forum?) to upload these pictures though...

That works for many but for me, I don't wish to maintain two separate locations for the same item.

Plus, I've been to far too many forum sites where the pictures are no longer on the photobucket/imageshack/whatever site.

At least if you attach the picture directly to the thread, it will be archived as long as the thread is available.

using the forum servers to host so many images is frowned upon, most forums i frequent make it as hard as possible to host images because it waste server band width and slows down the site.

for someone who claims to be a member of many forums you seem to have a hard time grasping this concept. i would say 90% of forum users host their pictures from a 3rd party source and for good reason. it is also easier to navigate your post with an embedded image rather than attached image at the bottom of the post. attached images also do not appear on some mobile browsers so your post would be lost to those people.

I agree! That's why I upload the images to this page ... and 'then' I link to them, with interspersed text, in the actual DIY (as shown here).

The advantage of keeping the pictures on the forum is that only one location has the pictures so we don't have to worry about an unrelated picture site going out of business.

If the forum goes out of business, the pictures won't be of much use on the picture sites anyway.

i see where you are going with this. that is an aweful lot of work too avoid dead picture links.
