How long do you plan on keeping your T4R?

I am 10 months into owning my 2012 TE and I have already put 21k miles on it. It got me to thinking that maybe I should get another daily driver and only use my T4R when I have to (inclement weather, road trips requiring space, hunting, camping, etc...).

I know T4R's are built like tanks, but I don't want to worry about whether or not my truck will break down in the middle of west Texas (5 years from now) because I've been driving it into the ground.

Right now I'm looking at a 2006 Lexus GS 300 with 75k miles. I was hoping to get something decently reliable while keeping some of the comfort. What do you guys think?

Is it worth it to buy a new daily driver to:
1) Preserve my car/mods and maintain it's reliability when I need it the most
2) Stretch my 36k warranty out as far as I can for future TSB's and what not

I personally don't think so. It's will cost you more money.
You have to buy a second car, insure it, maintain it as well... It all adds up.

I personally an on keeping my 4 runner until it dies. I bought mine in October of 2010 and I already have 38k miles on a 2011 4runner. I will hit over 100k in 5years of owning it.

But mileage means nothing to me or a Toyota for that matter. Just follow the service manual, maintain it and you'll be all set.

As far as warrantee expiring, in my case expired lol, doesn't bother me. It's a Toyota... They last forever if maintained properly.

Just go out and enjoy it. In my opinion you bought the best brand out there!

I plan to keep mine for as long as it lasts! It's my daily driver now, but I do plan on getting another vehicle eventually. But even then I will still always keep the 4Runner for my standby vehicle I can pull out in inclement weather or for any back country runs (either necessary, or strictly for fun).

But I can't see getting another vehicle before hit at least 150k on this one. These trucks will run forever when properly maintained. You shouldn't have to worry about it dyeing on you in Texas.

Back in 2008 made the decision to buy a new yaris for gas savings. Higher insurance premiums for a small vehicle cancelled any "savings". Good news was it kept the miles low on my FJ. I loved that vehicle yet DW wanted bigger interior (yes we share vehicles). Really like the new T4R and still have the yaris for racking up miles.

I don't have one yet, but I have been reading a lot on it before I put my foot down and get one. But, once I get one, I will baby it until it dies. The T4R will be my daily driver.

I've had 2 previous (96, 03) and 2 current Toyotas (98, 06). The two previous had AT LEAST 175K miles and were still running as new when I sold them. The two Toyotas I currently have have 190K miles and 63K miles.

FOREVER!! or until I pass it off to my son. My grandfather bought a 1976 Landcruiser brand new and its still in the family! I've only ever sold one and have always regreted it, my first love 1985 T4R SA SR5 EFI. Still bummed:bash:

I'll keep mine until they come out with the v8 and 6 speed transmission. Lets hope for 2014! In our area they have alot of used 5th gens on the lot.

I bought my TE in April of 2012 and have 22k miles already here in November 2012.

I plan and hope to keep it six years or 300k miles. I bought a 125k mile 4 year extended warranty with it and so far (knock on wood) have had no issues.

I come from owning Grand Cherokees for my last two work vehicles and have found that the extended warranties were well worth having. I put 280k on the first one in 6 years and 218k on the second one in 5 years.

I am hoping that by switching to Toyota, I can reduce my down time due to mechanical failures.

I know that no machine made by man is perfect, but with proper maintenance I hope to reach my goal with out too much trouble.

My father in law has a 97 Toyota Avalon with about 350k miles on the original engine, so I think Toyota may be a good choice. But only time will tell.

I am going for the record like that guy with the volvo p1800, or that guy last year with the honda. the only thing that could stop me is if I get to the point where it is too expensive to own, like gas going up even more or government requiring tracking devices for insurance etc. if they saw the way I drive they would revoke my license.

I plan on keeping mine for a good time. I have a DD so the miles will be kept at bay. Maybe pass it on to a kid when I have them.

Probably 5 or 6 years if it's a good vehicle. My first Toyota and first SUV. I generally keep vehicles 3 years or so with the exception of my 04 Silverado I kept for 5 years. If the Toyota is half as good as that truck I should have no problem keeping it.

If I do get another SUV I will probably get a Lexus Instead of another 4R

Just shy of 3 years now. I will keep mine until I see a need to sell it or they make some major improvement that I need/want. For now I am happy. I could see a swap out after 7-10 years of ownership though. I only have around 23k on it now so mileage is not an issue. I kept my last SUV 10 years and it was externally and internally near mint condition. Mechanically it started to have issue after issue though, and with a little one on the way back then I wanted some updated safety systems that was only to be found in a new vehicle.

So would buying a Daily Driver be worth it to keep my ~30k/yr driving habits at bay? I plan on keeping this sucker until it dies too but I'm still trying to figure out when this car should become my secondary. And if it becomes my secondary at >100k miles, can I still have confidence in it still working on long road trips (one of the reasons I bought it).

I figure I drive at least 1k/mo just to and from work, and if I have a daily driver, it can take those miles off the 4runner. Plus if my daily driver breaks down, it'll be where I live and I have a secondary car to drive while it's being fixed. From there, I'd probably only use my 4runner for longer trips/bad weather/moving.
