I had a 1995 4Runner 4wd Limited and traded for a 2000 4Runner 4WD Limited.

Bought the day after Thanksgiving, build date 10-99.

130k miles

My parents brought it back in Jan 99 brand new with 6 miles on the odo.

after I got my driving premit, dad pretty much gave me the keys to it..
 
im one of the lucky ones who has been with my baby since the first miles rolled on the odometer. i remember picking it up from the dealership like it was yesterday. aside from the few yrs my brother got to drive it in chicago, we've never been apart.
 
Ya I've had mine since day one. September 1997 and 143,000 miles later and it still runs awesome and is the most reliable vehicle in the family. Going to drive it till the wheels fall off!!!!
 
All maintenance has been done by me and some things i had help from my dad and his friends including timing belt and all the other stuff that comes with that at 100K miles... The only thing ive noticed that is partially diff then the first day we had it, is looks since ive added lots to it and sluggish power since i have the OME medium lift and 33s.

lol ya same here... we had this 4runner new from dealership and i told my parents i was gonna get that car when i could drive and my dad said dream on. wehn it came time i got it and i now have had it for 5 years and 120k miles but still smie when i turn back to look at it. My gf thinks im re****ed bc i love my 4runner so much!

I hear that! My wife borrowed the truck for a week a few years back while I worked on her car, and she has been lobbying to make my 'Runner her DD since. She admitted that she "gets it" now..........

Oh yes!!

Mine did the same thing!

I had a '96 SR5 4x4 a while back.
The inlaws were using her Stanza to haul the grand kids around ( they have a 'Vette, no room for car seats ) and the Wife was using my 4Runner. I have a company truck, so did not need it to go to work & back.

She fell in love with the 4Runners, so we got one for her too. That was 6 years ago, and she still has it!
We do squirrel rescue, so I fixed up her 4Runner for her :)

are squirrels endangered down there in FL? lol, funny story we had a japanese exchange student come stay with us for a bit and he had never seen one before in his whole life, went through 10 rolls of film all on squirrels,
we used to have a few as kinda of pets them and coons, they would come up to the back door and wait or scratch at the window waiting for a bit of bread, you hold your hand out and they would come up and take the goodies and run, lol, i think most people think of them as pests but i'm a fan, they crack me up.

oh and another interesting fact is in the u.k. the red squirrel is endangered becuase someone brought the American Grey squirrel over there at some point for something (i think it was some sort of environmental control program) and the grey squirrel pretty much just ate the red guys out of house and home, i just thought it was funny when i was living there to see the endangered squirrel signs all over the parks....i was like really...endangered squirrels, lol that was a new one to me, haha


anyways back on topic, i'm gearing up for a 4,533 mi trip this summer in my 4runner!!!! coming through wa,id,co,wy,nm,az,lv,ut, the 101 through ca, or and back to the wa.

going to be great!

Owned a '96 (purchased in '96) until 2001, then parents bought my '02 in 2002, and it became my car in 2006.

whats the meaning of OME? AND medium 33s? i never change time belts maybe ill wait until explode :)
 
ok so OME = Old Man Emu which is the most popular brand sold for 3rd gen 4runner lifts though there are others. The medium is the rating of the coils which means that it can hold 100+ hundred pounds of extra weight. 33s means the size of tires i have (measuring the diameter)... my 4runner came with 265/70/16 (31s) and i upgraded to 285/75/16 (33s).

Waiting til ur timing belt breaks is not a smart position to put urself in bc if it breaks while ur not at home itll create more probs of having to tow ur runner and get the parts. It is probably better to take it to a place to get it done if u are unsure and are unfamiliar with it. I got help from my dad and his friend but it was still tedious and very difficult.
