How Low can you go?

I was driving home today from my real home about 45mi away. As soon as I left my house my gas light came on. On my computer I still had 21mi left, and I've heard people go as far as 40mi past that. At about 12mi left on the display my gas meter was dead center on the empty line, which was enough to frighten me inti getting gas. When I filled her up, I only filled up a little over 20. I'm 99% sure my 4th gen has a 23 gallon tank. How low does the gas meter gauge go??? By my calculations...at the lowest mpg I've attained, my gas light goes on at still roughly 50mi left.


Oh and cool story, I reset my computer as I always do after gas fill-up, and as I got to my house the computer read 25.9mpg AVG. Minus 2, and thats still 24mpg at 55-60 freeway speeds. I was impressed...dying of slowdom, but IMPRESSED!

Funny you posted this, this AM I too was at 21mi left on the trip odometer I filled up and the trip computer said 318 til empty, be mindful I put 20.2 gallons in and my light was on same as yours, by my calculations my V8 gets right at 20.4 MPG on average that would be 400 MI til empty not 318. I am confused as well.

Seems to be the case. SO I guess we'll split the difference say 2.5 gallons left, and call it a fact.
