How man 3G'S have functioning A/C?

jus for asking what does a OEM from the dealer cost?

23Something,000 on my 97 limited (with a working clock) and it needs a recharge can every other year it seems, but other than that it blows cold! It's not my DD this summer, so I haven't gotten around to the recharge yet. I did just clean the condenser with that foaming AC fin cleaner stuff when I was installing my trans cooler, and woah...it looked like the sahara desert underneath my car after that.

Oh, and I replaced my fan clutch recently as well. I'm wondering if that will help the issue I have which is similar but with the heater. Basically, if I'm not on the gas, then the heat temperature drops like a rock unless the thermostat is on anything but the hottest temp. It's basically all on, or sort of on.

OP, I'd say it's worth your time to try and fix it if you enjoy AC. I can't stand summer, so I have my AC set to the Night's Watch setting most of the time.

It's a very easy job requiring just basic hand tools.

I did run outside and check to see if there was any resistance in the fan... there was some but not as much as the guy in the video had.. like if i spun it it was stop.. it wouldn't spin freely..

On the Topic of A/C..

has the Toyota part number for the expansion valve been superseded?

I am getting 88515-20100 from the EPC, but struggling to find any outside of the main dealer.. as its a standard (Denso I assume) part I figured I could save some money getting it elsewhere.

I usually just buy OEM, but in the cases where OEM parts are outsourced I'm happy to go direct, instead of non oem parts.. if that makes sense.
 
160K on a '99 Limited, AC seems to work okay. Not super cold though, but from a guy used to no AC at all it isn't too bad.

During my search I saw one with a compressor that was trashed around the same mileage.

New part number is 88515-22240

Genuine Denso ones on US Ebay for $42 (Plus $23 postage to the UK for me)

(UK) Dealer Price $149.82 including tax

The question is... do I risk it getting squashed in the mail!?
 
I'm amazed on how well the A/C works in our runner.

2001. 162k. Its ice ice cold instantly.

My Jeep Cherokee, takes forever to get cold. Same with my Honda.

It's a metal block with holes in it. Not gonna squash.

Just picked my 4Runner up yesterday. Aaaand the A/C doesn't work. Big surprise.... I lol'd when I saw this thread
 
To tell you the truth i'm surprised at how many high mileage runners still rock the AC.. then again it IS Toyota...
