I finally get to join this club:dancin: LOL! I literally exploded one today. It wasn't even that hard of a flex and it was the one on the non flexing side. I had been doing some HARD flexing a few minutes before, though.

No broken cvs. Both boots split with in a week of putting on the lift , no wheeling. 200K but what do you expect with that sort of milage ?

What's this about long travel boots at the top ...

And I thought upgraded cv's was a bad idea so you don't grenade the case ...

Need info on long travel boots

0 for myself, and no leakage either after 210K, and major off-roading atleaste 4 times with it being at stock height.

I am now looking up prices though! Anybody have suggestions on replacement parts? Wise to go with Toyota OEM or are they much more $? I was in the dealership today checking out prices on random replacement parts, didn't even think of pricing these while there though.

Blew my driver's side to pieces the first time testing the 4x4 on the side of a dirt road (unknown cv mileage) and not two weeks later blew the passenger side out doing some factory flexing, both outers. Now I keep tearing outer boots with the Advance Auto axles. I just end up wrapping them in trash bags and zipties till the joint actually fails.

So with 5 months of ownership I've claimed 6 total.

I cant believe you guys have gone threw so many... ive torn boots but never grenaded one

3" pucks no diff drop and 255's

Are you talking about a body lift when you said 3" pucks or were you talking about coil spacers?

I have never broken a CV in 10 years of owning and wheeling my truck. I replaced 3 total because the boots shredded on 2 of them and 1 CV just got way too much play in it, but I still never broke one... at least not yet. A huge part of it is not flooring it and letting the wheel come to a sudden stop and never get on it hard when the wheels are turned all the way to one side, especially in 4LO.

i have broken 4 cv joints and torn 2 boots and i don't got that crazy off road its because my 3 inch coil lift puts them at a bad angle and an even worse one when flexing and offroading

A three inch body lift is illegal in utah for being unsafe ha. im talking coil spacers.

And yeah i wheel it some ridiculous places, but i know how to drive it nicely when im off road. id hate to bust one on a trail in moab.

when in doubt tack it out never works guys... thats why we see lots of broken jeeps lol

dont worry we still have drunk dumbass's on the trails here too...
probably why trails are getting shut down. keep up the good work team.

hi guys,
i also replaced an outer joint right side due to toomuch play. i am using a prado 95 series. the unit is almost identical with the 4runner in terms of suspension.

aside from the above, do we have any other tips to prolong the life of our boots and joints?

thanks!

I just ran into this while I was uploading a couple of other vids.

For your enjoyment. Don't you just love how the first thing my buddy does is makes a smart comment about breaking an axle then chuckles. So funny.

This axle did not break at the outer or inner joint it torqued the half shaft right in two with a clean break. Almost looked like it was cut.
