How many miles on yours?!?!?

I had my 99' Runner in the shop (V6 4x4) to get new tires and found out the radiator has a small leak, and the rear axle gaskets are leaking a little. I freaked out...this is the FIRST thing that has EVER gone wrong with this thing since I bought it new (actually my in-laws bought it new). The guy that manages the shop looked at me like I was full of crap when I said it was the first thing that needed repaired. He noticed that I had just turned over 140,000 miles. I didn't think much of it...the Runner always works perfect. The ONLY other thing I have had to do to it other than oil changes is I replaced the upper radiator hose a few months ago.

140,000 and going strong. What are you guys up to? Whats the life expectancy of a gently used, well maintained V6 from Toyota. I am hoping to be bragging about the 300,000 mile mark someday.

I got a 99 4runner, it just turned over to 160,000 and is running strong. 300,000 wouldn't be a problem as long as you do the maintenance.

I just turned 130k and outside of normal maintenance just the axle seals have been replaced at 100k. Even my power antenna still works;my mom has a '99 Limited with about 80k and her power antenna doesn't.:p

I'm just over 140k. My mom was the first owner and put 130k highway miles as it was her daily driver. She babied the hell out of it. Then I bought it last summer and I haven't had a single problem. Besides normal maintanance, the only other thing I've had to replace was the battery which finally gave in 2 weeks ago.

my '98 just turned 72K. replaced tires, brakes, both rear axle seals and wheel bearing, battery and an alternator. aftermarket alarm crapped out so i replaced it with a remote start.

I've just crossed 120K. Replacment items to date: ignition cylinder. Power antenna should be replaced. Rocker cover seal leaks a little oil. Otherwise I guess I am pretty lucky.

127,xxx. Running great. My dad wants to put on another timing belt. Its been replaced once already, I said, "Ok, if you really wanna pay for it, go ahead."

177,500 and this past year has been bad...

Oct '06 - Cracked Radiator
Nov '06 - Revtek Lift + diff drop installed w/ Rancho Shocks/Struts
Jan '07 - CV axles replaced (ripped from lift)
Feb '06 - Starter; O2 sensors
Apr '06 - Head Gasket, Water Pump, Belts
Jun '06 - Round two of CV axles ~ Revtek lift removed

Prior to that...
Mar '05 - Heater Core
Various - Brakes

Worst part of it all, I've been religious about oil changes every 5k and scheduled maintenance every 15k. I'd like to get to 200k but my confidence is waivering.

my 96 is coming up on 230k. Nothing major has ever broken or gone wrong. Just standard maintenance and it runs like a champ. The brakes lasted 110k, go figure.

Oct '06 - Cracked Radiator

lol, mine cracked in Oct '06 too, sure was a bitch to get everything to work again after that.

164k running smooth now tho.

I should have NEVER started this thread. My battery died this morning! I also have the cracked radiator. I am looking at getting that swapped out asap. Fun stuff...I love high mileage vehicles. But this is the best vehicle I have ever owned...so I will suffer through it. It's been paid off for years, and it's been in my family since new.

we bought the 96 brand spankin' new back in 1996. hasn't given us any major problems, runs great, but its starting to show its age. im 18 and it was my moms daily driver for 9 yrs and she went and got another 4runner and the 96 was passed down to me. so nice to know about every aspect of the car sense its been in our family for every last mile on it. I love that thing.

Love mine as well, 10 years next month, but at some point I need to think how the thousands I'm putting into her would sure get me closer to an FJ Cruiser.

We are up to 192K on our '97, just put Michelin 265/75/16 tires on it last weekend that should get us over 200K.

yeah i do the scedualed maite. but there have been a few things that go wrong
but first let me say i am rolling up on 200K! i so proud!

-i do change the oil every 4k miles
-yeah we did replace the radio antena but that cuz the driver hit a treebranch (i wasnt old enough to drive back then)

1st i think the first reall problem that went wrong with the 4runner (asside from driving problems, and light bulbs) was the tie rod broke off

2nd both rear axle seals ahve been replaced (around 187K right and the left being around 195k miles)

3rd the right rear step up thingy (the shelf that helps you get intop the but suv) the back plastic/medal broke off

thank god the 4th hasnt come yet!

knock on wood but that about the problems with a 1996 4runner

my dad has the bad 2003 model that gives everyone trouble... but his is still being broke in at 178K miles! and no problems and i mean no problems!
