How many of you upgraded your sound system?

I recently installed Kenwood HU, Mosconi 4 channel amp to bi-amp my focal front separates. It sounds great as is, but will soon add another amp and focal separates in back doors. Not sure what if anything I will do in tail gate.

Is it "stock" if you keep the head unit but upgrade speakers, sub and amp? Or is it aftermarket?

I think that would be considered aftermarket since you upgraded your sound systems. I don't think you HAVE to upgrade your headunits, but possibly considered down the line maybe.

I have OEM Audio Plus. Definitely enjoy mine and enjoy the longer road trips, especially solo, much more than before it. Don't have the subwoofer though, and imagine the bass especially would be much nicer with it. Might add it later on.

I've been eye the OEM Audio Plus the past couple of months, but deciding if I should go Tires first or sound system haha.

I really want to upgrade my system, but $2500 for the OEM is too much. Thought about replacing the speakers, but without an amp not sure how much that would improve it.

Are you looking at the full dual OEM system, because for the single you are just looking at $1800 and I think that's a bit pricey, but also reasonable since its just plug and play.

Thinking about pulling the trigger on the speaker upgrades from OEM Audio and add on the amp & woofer at a later time. Wish there was a demo in my area so I can listen to it first before placing the order.

Yeah, I wish I would be able to listen to a demo before I pull the trigger. I have a friend who has the system, but without the sub and amp.

I see people sound deaden the whole door, but I also see people do them just around the speaker hole. I am not too crazy to block out sounds, but I do want to prevent rattles.

JBL stock speakers to replace oem

I have a 2016 limited with the JBL sub that comes stock. Does the speakers in the doors (4) and on the trunk come with JBLs as stock? If not I was looking into the

1) JBL 602E 6 1/2 (165mm) (135W)

Stage 602E | 6-1/2" (165mm) coaxial car speakers, 135W

VS

2) JBL Club 6520 6 1/2 (160mm) (150W)

Club 6520 | 16.5 cm 2-way coaxial speakers

Could anyone chime in and let me know if these would work as far as replacement for all 6 speakers? or any input on these going with the stock amp?

Have you asked your friend if he was pretty happy with the results of the speaker upgrades from OEM Audio?

I have been thru this along time. I love my music. But I’m not ripping out my 2020 Pro JBL system. My JBL is so much better then my 17 Pro with the entune system. I have had so many systems in my cars and trucks over the years. My 2 last systems in my C5Z06 with whole interior sound deaden. Could have competed in audio competition. My 15 Tacoma another awesome system. I’m content with my JBL system in my Pro.

I found the stock head unit audio quality acceptable, but I did replace the dash speakers with JL 2 ways. That was a night and day difference in bringing out a lot of sound that was absent with the stock speakers.

I found the biggest improvement was changing the front 3.5 inch dash speakers, followed by a sub, then dynamat for me in terms of sound. The dynamat was time consuming to put in, but worth it. IMO best to OK for noticeable sound improvement speakers wise I would change the front dash speakers first, then front doors, the rear doors, I never put in new speakers in the rear hatch.

Keeping the stock head unit and replacing the front door/dash and rear door speakers with the FOCAL Toyota drop-in replacements made a huge difference for me in my 2018.

I'm in the process of doing a full aftermarket upgrade:

I just finished a full sound deadening: CLD at 25% (Dynamat extreme), 1/8" neoprene CCF, 1/8" MLV on the doors, floors, hatch, cargo, and rear wheelhouse. The roof has CLD and 1" hydrophobic melamine foam. Door seals will have 1/4" silicone tubing inserted.

This far into it, I decided not to do OEM Audio+ nor TacoTunes plug-and-play systems...

JL audio 8" sub in the stock enclosure with custom adapter spacer ring (no cutting or dremeling the enclosure).

Just finished running new wire for the hatch speakers and this week will finish running new wire for the rear doors. Going to use OEM terminals in the door connector to avoid snaking new wire through. This way no more series wired rear speakers!

Putting in Focal speakers all around; 6.5 components (with tweets) up front, 6.5 coaxials in the rear and hatch. Using HD TacoTunes speaker mounts throughout, and TacoTunes under seat amp racks. A JL 8-channel amp to run them all.

Not sure what head unit to go with yet. Looking at Kenwood, Alpine, and Pioneer. Not sure if I'll do a double-DIN or a floating unit.

Upgraded all of my door speakers to MB Quart 6x9's and 6.5's in the rear doors and hatch, front tweeters were upgraded to JBL 3020 Club 3.5's, and added a JL 250 W amp w/ JL 8w3v3 8" sub in the rear. Recently ordered an Alpine Halo 9 to replace the HU

Paid for stock stuff. Figure I’ll run em till them blow then upgrade the speakers. Head unit will likely be one of the last things I do to the truck. Maybe somewhere way down the line I’ll get crazy with subs and amps. But, plenty of other shit to spend that money on that would be a lot more fruitful.

Here's the thread to my upgrade. Still intend to do a sub but its not a necessary add. Love the sound quality with the amp. This unit also has the ability to control accessory switches (something i was unaware of before installing my switch pro). Hasn't missed a ..... beat.... since installing it.

Helix 3 way competition set minus the tweeter. Have a rainbow cal27 in its place and a 10in infinity perfect. Powered by 2 2channel amps and a helix dsp2. Sound deadener on all panels except for the roof.

He's pretty happy with the result, but of course it's missing that base. He's planning to get the whole sub setup soon and hopefully I get to listen to it before I get mine.

I know for sure I'm going to do the same thing, but I think i'll probably just do the doors and the hatch since that's where all the spears are sitting. Possibly later I might do the whole truck if I'm not lazy lol.
