Blows my mind how much crap the 3.0 gets! Yes, we know the head gasket can be an issue. Yes, we know it is underpowered. What we also know is that thousands of Toyota owners get in to their Toyota vehicle everyday, start their 3VZE and go about their daily lives. Many of us take them offroad and drive through just about anything (with the proper mods and enhancements).

So I am curious. In an effort to get some respect for the 3.0, I pose the question: How many original miles have you put on your 3.0 with out a rebuild?

My last one popped its head gasket cork about one week after I put tags on it, at just over 100k. In their defense, though, my first two served me well (although I didn't know anything about their pasts). Put a proper exhaust on them, and put them in a lighter sedan, and they'd probably last decades. But I still don't want another one (LOL)! Sorry Bill.

only the gods know... I put mine in with 173k on the odometer, but this is the third engine. Neglect and abuse were probably the cause before.

I've got over 4k on mine now.

208,xxx though it blew the headgasket, which i fixed. It was running before I wrecked it, flipped it back on the wheels and poured some oil into it and fired her off and drove her. So hey it's underpowered but it never left me stranded.

THAT BEING SAID, the 3.4L is amazing bill sorry :hiding:

I'm certainly not trying to bash the 3.4 or the 22RE. Both are great engines. I'm just trying to prove that the 3.0 is a long lasting reliable engine. So far we have 44% over 200,000 miles. Not sounding good for the haters.

My first one would have lasted longer if PO had serviced it properly. With quality HG and true heads and block, a 3.0 should run 300k. Mine current 3.0 has engblder lower w/toyota gaskets upper with extra care given to cam seals(major leak issue that turned into HG issue) and can power brake 39.5 iroks. Yes on dry pavement !!

I have a 93 with only 94500 original miles. Head gasket just went, and it was replaced under recall once before in 97. Still plan on replacing the gasket and running it more though cause I know it's got a lot more life left. Luckily the gasket is leaking out of the engine and not into it, for the time being, so I can still drive it occasionally.

They're whatever to me. I'm not really gonna laugh at anyone's rig that has one - it's just that I would absolutely never buy one myself. My friends' shop has seen several 3.0 repairs; great money-makers. It's all down to what you like i guess. I'd personally hold out for a 3.4 if I haaad to have a Toyota V6.

woops i picked 300000 miles on the poll by accident and cant change it
231xxx
photo is a few months old but its not a DD so i may be off 500 miles or so lol

Just under 250, 000 and just like it should, it fires right off, and ready to go as far as I can afford to keep feeding it dead dinosaurs.

I may have a new engine block. If it wasn't replaced, 146,xxx. If it was replaced (which I believe it was by the previous owner) 5,xxx.

266,860 miles on mine, only ever been opened down to the valve cover gaskets. yeah it leaks ever fluid you put in it and the valve make a real nasty tick, but she gets me where I need to go with adequate power (thank you r150f!). I love my 3vze, just wish it was better supported.

the 92 i picked up had 169k on it before the valves got so tight it burned 3 intake valves. the guy basicaly drove it till it would pull itself anymore. It had sat for 5 years when i got it

Over 300K, But Am Paying The Price !!!

Just bought a SUPER clean (In & Out) 95 3.0 V-6 with 325,000. The Craigslist ad said "Rebuilt engine", but had been sitting for months & had "Sluggish of the line problem". (Seller said probably dirty injectors - I agreed). Turns-out the "Rebuilt" was just a new timing chain 50k miles ago.

Best price advertised...."1st $1650 Takes It".

Knowing that well priced vehicles (having missed-out on several) sell in a day or two, I jumped on this truck. The engine & trans (auto) looked almost new - no leaks, & the cleanest from underneath - I mean no grime, leaks etc.

I've always had good luck buying used cars buy just checking the basics.....Smoking exhaust, sludge in valve cover, dip-stick, sound, temp, starting ease, driveability, etc. Truck drives rock-solid, but no power off the line, until 20 MP, then runs great.

B O T T O M L I N E, I finally did compression check......... Right bank all 175 lbs. Plugs burn stark white / Left bank all 75 lbs. Plugs all black. Not to mention the Cat Converter gets RED-HOT.

Jury still out on "Head Gasket" OR..... ????

Thanks for reading and any feedback,

Flustered Buyer,
Michael Patterson
