It's totally bonkers to me to see ORP trucks going for $46K. 2 years ago I thought $38K was asking too much.

2020 changes saw about a $2k+ increase I think. At least on the off road premiums. I'm sure the 2021's added to that. Toyota's definitely milking the hell out of the 5th gens and people are still willing to throw down the extra $$.

I think 37-38k for an off road premium (35-36k for non-premium) would be the right pricing in my mind, but everything is overpriced nowadays.

Something must have changed in September regarding pricing/demand. 4Runners were hard to find in the summer, but we still bought my wife her new Barcelona Red 2020 TRD ORP Premium w/moonroof and a rear floor mat as the only options for $38,250 (before tax) at the end of July and I thought we did alright. I'm astounded that people are paying so much more now. Many are paying well over $5K for the same 4Runner. Yikes. I knew the used car market was amazing for sellers right now, but had no idea that the new car market was the same.

You're comparing 2020s to 2021s. Most dealerships have flushed 2020s.

What was MSRP? And did you get a dealer invoice sheet showing the dealer cost for the installed items?

wait until fall of 2021 (thats only a few steps away from your May buytime)..2021 will be on clearance status... you should be able to work a deal at that time on 2021 models clearing out..

also many other variables such as region... some regions will price compete more than others.

certain regions may have a higher 4runner demand and the local dealers will know that and hold on their prices.

other regions may work price a bit more than others.

and then theres always the buyer variable on whether you can walk away from an offer to work a better deal..

Thanks. I was able to turn a couple dealerships against each other here in the San Antonio area. When they wouldn't come up or down on my trade offer or sale price I told them I was heading to a third dealership. Suddenly they were much more willing to negotiate. I probably could have got an even better deal on a different T4R, but I knew EXACTLY what I wanted and wouldn't stray from it (color, trim, features, etc).

I did the Costco and Navy Fed car buying services ahead of time and let them contact me. That's a good way to start from a Baseline negotiating price. It was a bloody battle though!

everyone buys differently.. i like to shop during clearance season..

no reason to eat a full years depreciation for getting new model release during launch.. i have patience... just buy during clearance season and watch for incoming vin#'s which are landing portside fresh from the factory.

The redesign is not due until fall of 2022 as a 2023 model-unless you know otherwise..?

Any tips for locating a specific build other than just going to each dealer website? I went to a local dealer with a TRD Pro build--they took my info, gave me a price and a very reasonable offer on my 06 Limited. 4 weeks later and I have not heard anything from them--no "order confirmation" or anything. Meanwhile, I have multiple other dealers who must have gotten my info from the main Toyota site emailing me and trying to get me to order one through them. Any experience to share with what the process should be like?
