I thought this would be interesting to do. I have a 50 mile round trip to work, with only one gas station on the way which happens to be a Chevron.

Here is an example(This is my vehicle, and what I payed!)

Fuel Prices


Just got back from a week's vacation on the road (7 states). The lowest I saw was $3.17 here in VA (Richmond metro area) and the costliest was a Shell station in Highland Falls, NY where it was $3.95!

I had a Lincoln MKZ rental car with a V6 and it did pretty well on fuel mileage -- consistently averaging 24 to 26 miles per gallon. I was not driving like a grandpa, either, and encountered a lot of traffic congestion.

I drove just under 2,000 miles on six days! I definitely took advantage of their 'unlimited mileage' rental agreement; that is for sure.

The Lincoln MKZ is on the same chassis as a Ford Fusion, but of course is a lot nicer and has many more amenities - the best of which was Sirius satellite radio. No worry about losing a station when leaving a metro area. The V6 was powerful, too, and was mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. I rented a Ford Fusion a few months back during a business trip - a decent car, but it only had a four-cylinder engine.


P.S. I noticed that some states sell 'pure' gasoline, while others (such as PA and VA) almost always sell ethanol-laced gasoline (E10).

I live in Oregon and when I left for vacation two weeks ago I was paying 4.30...FML

Gas and diesel both are $3.59 here which is above the national average for gas which is unusual. We are usually cheaper.
