How much did you pay for your 3rd gen?

Third gen 4runner had a lot of sentimental values to me. With that said I’ve bought two at near $10k a pop. Both are manual V6

I bought a mint 2000 5-speed SR5 V6 with 112K in 2011 for 9.5K...in a lapse of judgement I sold it three years ago. Recently paid 11K for a 2000 Sport 5-Speed V6 with 160K but I can afford it and didn't want any other car out of nostalgia.

Old thread?

This looks like an old thread, but figured I'd give my input. I just got my second TR4. First one was a 1995 Limited 4x4 and 119,000 miles. It had the notorious failed head gasket at the back on driver side head where the crossover connects. It was BAD. Under 14psi on the coolant system it would fill up the cylinder in a few seconds. I got that one in a trade so I nothing in it. Before I got around to repairing it, I found a 2000 SR5 4x4 with 267,000 miles. Runs great, but does have leaking valve covers. I gave $1900 for it. I sold the 1995 the next day for $1000, so I have $900 in it. Now I'm replacing all of the front suspension bushings, CV axles, Upper and lower ball joints, upgrading the rotors/calipers, steering rack bushings, inner/outer tie rods, sway bar end links, ect. I will say that Toyota could have done a better job of making this TR4 more service friendly. Most of what I am doing isn't really necessary, but I figured I'd go ahead and replace all of this while some if it was apart anyway. I'm planning on riding trails so I don't want any failures out there, if possible. Uwharrie can be rough. By the time I'm finished I'll have far more money invested, but feel it'll be worth it. The day after I bought the 2000 a guy offered me a little more than I initially paid for it, but I figured it wasn't worth trying to find another TR4 3rd gen in this good of shape overall. I may have what it's worth tied up in it, but working on them is half the fun, most of the time anyway.

Paid $5,900 from a Toyota dealer in Orlando for a 2001 Limited 4wd with 174,000 miles. 1 family owner and almost all maintenance records since new. Not a spec of rust anywhere on the car with new tires and timing belt done within the last year. First time I've ever paid a dealer's asking price, but I was looking for this car for so long that it was well worth it!

‘00 $3750

$3750,everything works, have replaced timing belt, water pump, seals and half moons, plugs and wires, all other seals under the valve covers, gaskets, and a cracked cover which was responsible for an amazing amount of oil leakage over the course of lord knows how long a time. Just drove it from Asheville to DC and back with no issues...except an occasional loud 3-5 second burst of air from time to time with the AC on. Thinking that may be due to me putting too much Freon in the system...

Recently bought my 2000 Limited for 5.8k.

212k, Rear locker, 2" OME Lift, 33's.

Needed new CV's and radiator which were relatively easy jobs.

Very happy :)

I picked up my 2001 SR5 4X4 with 225K for $2500 back in 2017, still all OEM and with minimal rust for a Nebraska vehicle.

She needed new tires but other than that, everything worked and still works!

Bought my 01 runner SR5 for 3k with only 180k mikes on it. Owned it for about 3 years now and after latest valve job, fuel pump and timing belt job done, still runs like a champ. Wished it was a 4x4, but I’ll take this one any day.

'01 sr5 185k lifted on fj springs and bilsteins. Newer ATs. $5200.

Very clean interior, but a significant amount of rust. Makes simple jobs a huge pain in the ass. Hope to have it on the road in a month or so [emoji848][emoji28].

Needed/needs calipers, lower ball joints, lower ca bushings, steering rack bushings. The list goes on. Timing belt looks good though. Runs strong.

Paid 103,000 Yen for a 2001 with 150, 000 km.

Originally was shopping for a 80 series in decent condition at the auctions, bid on a few 3rd Gen's and won the 1st I bid on with over a 100K km. Came rust free, in great condition, and absolutely perfect for our needs. Bush pinstripping often this year, dust free with inside with all the back road mileage this year, and plenty of clearance on all the routes we've done this year. I've had Landcrusiers before, don't miss the parts costs and wait times for them.

I bought my 98 2WD from thee OG owner, last Dec. 115k with records & maintenance up to date, for 5300 in really good shape. Being in CA, I thought this was a smoking deal!!!!!

Had another lined up last week. 88K 4WD OG owner for 10K. But he would not give me the VIN. So I got leery, N decided to pass.

Pound for pound. I think I may be hard pressed to find a deal like the one I got last Dec. Which was my 1st 4runne. N now I am hooked!! N so is my pit, who is my co-pilot. This has to be one of thee best choices, in vehicles for dog owners!

$2,500. Apparently that's a good deal these days.

$3600 CAD 2000 SR5 V6 with 333K.
Body and frame were decent. Needs brake and tires and probably a few other pieces. Interior is rough
