How much have you towed?

I have a small camper, 3500# or so and it tows just fine. I however am looking at one that I could tow to a construction site and leave it there for a good long while and tow it very rarely. The weight worries me a bit because it would be pushing the max limit. Dry weight is 4200# and I know campers are heavier than listed. The drive to the site would be about 100 miles, I would drive no more than 50.

Anybody ever successfully and safely towed at our limit or above? I do have an external cooler not bypassed for heat dissipation.

Most of what I have towed have been cars; 89 Supra, 08 G37, 09 370Z, etc ... Uhaul shows the trailer weighs 2200lbs, and the G37 weighs in around 3700lbs, and the Supra is up there as well. I've never had an issue towing, even across country sometimes. I do have the 4:30 rear diff, the larger factory "sport" brakes, and a trans cooler installed, so I'm sure that helps some.

If you have towed almost 6000 I am sure I can handle 5000. By the way, how do you figure out what your gear ratio is? I would be curious to know.

There are a lot of ways to figure it out. In my case i'm assuming Toyota held up their end of the "sport/highlander" package and the V6 e-locker automatic trucks would have the 4:30 rear diff.
 
I am curious if Dara was measuring in tons or metric tons. Either way, if legit, is pretty impressive.

I have towed a 23ft boat, 4800lbs total, with Tundra brakes and no brake controller, and was fine for a couple of miles on flat terrain.
 
these runners will handle a lot, i dont advise doing what i did, but i towed a F350(non dually) 4x4 6.0 quad cab on a flat bed trailer that weighed just over 3000lbs just by itself over 150miles, now the trailer did have trailer brakes on both axles and i have a brake controller in my truck as well as an air bag kit. i dont think i ever got over 50mph and if something happened right in front of me, there was no way i would of swerved to avoid it, if i couldnt stop in time i was going right though it... you just have to be smart and think about what you are doing and plan ahead for things
 
I towed a fully loaded 6x12' Uhaul trailer from San Diego to Portland. I'm not sure of the weight but it handled perfectly fine, even through mountain passes in the rain. :)
 
I towed my 21' Wakeboard boat plenty of times and it does fine. Combined weight with trailer and loaded up is right around 5K lbs. I"m not flying up any hills but it does pretty good.

I wouldn't be concerned witih the camper your considering.
