How much power does your A/C use?

i noticed this to just got my 06 v8 last week, so much for the v8 being smoother than the v6. with the driveshaft clunk now this..... please tell me this isnt normal and somthing can be done.

It's not normal, like I said my T4R doesn't have this symptom, check your refrigerant level it could be low on oil or the clutch or compressor is going out.

Mine definitely doesn't surge forward, I see the change in RPM when the AC is on, but I don't feel any power loss or surging at all. I am very sensitive to my truck too, as described, with noises or anything else really.

After reading this thread I had to drive it and turn on the A/C. No issues at all, I could barely detect any change at all.

funny i felt my ac wasnt as cold as it should the other day. pulled the high side cap off and heard a release. so i did a evac recharge changed the hs and ls valves. took out 1.15 put back 1.3 oz. i havnt noticed it again but havnt been able to cruze but that one time on the freeway at 70 plus with smooth throttle.

going camping / wheeling for the first time this weekend, gona be 110+ here in the valley so ill report back if it does it again.

Same here, on my 4.0L V6 I can't tell any difference whether the A/C is on or off, of course in the 111 degree heat it's on most of the time here. I don't know if it ever actually cuts off or not.
 
Of course I noticed this today...owned my truck for 2 years and didn't notice it until I read this thread. I don't agree that it "lunges forward" tho, I mean thats a bit ridiculous. Sounds like a Code 6 to me, the problem is 6 inches behind the steering wheel.
 
I don't notice anything this drastic you guys are saying. My compressor must be running really smooth or something and trust me I notice every little thing. I am not saying nothing happens when ac knocks on but nothing that serious


My old Camry when the AC compressor went one day it almost stopped the car or made it stutter like crazy as I turned on the ACCESS

What i am saying is if this is happening your AC compressor or clutch is going. I am no expert but just based on what happened to my Camry
 
04 V8 here and I don't notice a thing other than a slight loss of power during acceleration. And yes AC is essential for some of us, 71 degrees is sweltering to me.

It is! I'd never spent much time in NM so we spent last week in the Santa Fe and surrounding area. We'll be back again!

We had 104 outdoor temp so ran the A/C which hit our mpg's. We had our trailer which typically drops our mpg to 10. Then add strong winds so we were getting 6 mpg's for a lot of the time. That really sucked.

Having the trailer awning unfurl in those conditions made it suck even more but over all we had a great time!
 
In EVERY car I've ever been in and driven I notice the AC engagement. It is a parasitic drag on the drivetrain. If your driving style is slow then you probably don't notice, but if you drive aggressive and don't notice its because you don't pay attention.

I seem to notice the AC more in the V8 than I did in the V6 though

^^^This - when people say they can't notice any power difference when the a/c is on in hot weather, especially in stop/go traffic with everything hot under the hood, cooling fan clutch engaged, etc, they're full of s***...

Yeah if it's cool out, or in the winter, or at night just cruising, you won't notice much. Also the slight 100 or so rpm change with the v8, you're likely going to potentially notice a little lurching forward if you're holding your foot in the pedal just at the point of stopping movement.

Just had to say this so people don't get all worried about their rides as a result of some of the comments in this thread.
