Yeah it does seem like a lot to me but I am not sure if you did everything listed or not. I paid my professional mechanic $199 to turn my front rotor and replace the pads. Getting new factory front brakes (rotors and pads) cost ~ $400 including parts.

Next time you need help post on TacomaWorld or T4R "need help in HI, will bring beer" and you might get the help for free.

It's $50 an hour, that he charged him, he gave him an extra $50, too me thats a lot of money, but $50 an hour isn't bad for a mechanic considering dealers are upwards of $100 an hour for labor...

@brianemc2_42- Yes, we did do everything listed on the sheet I attached except replacing the rear tires. I considered the beer offer but for a day of hard work in the hot sun, I couldn't justify in my mind just offering someone some beer. I'm also quite sure I wouldn't want someone inebriated working on my truck. But anyway, a JohnsD90 mentioned, the cost was basically $50 an hour and I tipped him $50 extra. I consider that a very good deal and very close to the cost that other members here suggested that I pay him anyway. I saved over $500 in labor fees.

Get a set price on the labor before he picks up a wrench. For Hawaii, $35/hr. Maybe $40.

Yeah it was a good deal compared to the stealership plus you are in Hawaii so options are limited.
