Well true, that is just an extension of the shopping cart.
Take the goofballs the made the video at the beginning of this thread for instance. Each of them literally dropped 20+K worth of stuff just into the trucks, plus thousands of $$$ more for all the crap to go in it, dress up the part of some spec ops dudes (because I guess that is what you do when your home from your job, you just keep like you're working, I guess?) go act like know-it-alls for a camera, spread wrong information, I guess trying to justify how much money they spent trying to look cool, while tantalizing a few more people with all their goodies and perceived knowledge of awesomeness, that for who knows why want to be just like them, and off to rack up the credit card.
Side note minor rant, this whole survive in the wild thing, for the most part pretty much not really a thing when a hospital, gas station, more humans in 90% of our wonderful country (and neighbors) are within a phone call, radio, walking distance. It is of course good to have solid first aid/first responder, off-road driving, trail finding/navigation but the whole Red Dawn guns up the wazoo for post apocalyptic take over BS is for the birds (BTW I am not anti-gun, I have a few of them myself, I am anti-idiot gun owner)

it must be frustrating if you live in one of these places.
I live in a weird backwoods place, only because of my love for flyfishing for atlantic salmon.
The better a fisherman becomes, the less they want to show off. This takes years, and there's a natural progression of thinking you know everything, only to discover you don't know jack.
every year neophytes swarm my water and break the cardinal rule of "don't tell anyone about where you just were" on social media. The result is drones flying overhead, and people making pseudo-romantic videos of their fishing trips while disrespecting the fish, the habitat, and the people who live here. Over and over. Just for likes, which is apparently a commodity now.
they don't understand that they look like gigantic jackasses with all their doodads and fashionable purchases. They are 'sponsored' to do what they're supposed to love.
Meanwhile the best fishermen I know have rods and reels from the 1980's and don't really know what the internet is.
I can't imagine living close to MOAB, but I assume it's very similar.

In my area the Adirondack Preserve was created primarily to protect the source of the Hudson River which is the water supply for most of downstate New York. Secondly it is a Forever Wild Preserve for the enjoyment of all the people who visit to take in its natural beauty.
30 years ago there were many trails open and you could spend days creeping through the forest past ponds and lakes and over mountains in a four-wheel drive vehicle. When I got my 4Runner I went looking for several of these trails only to find many of them gated and closed to access. At first this frustrated me and I felt my rights were being denied but then in the trails that were still open I would see old furniture, televisions and bags of garbage dumped along the sides of the trails. I would also see wetlands that were torn up by ignorant selfish people doing donuts and just trying to see if their big rig could make it through the mud.
Now I agree with the trail closures and the gates are an unfortunate necessity to preserve these beautiful mountains that we are all privileged to be allowed to hike in.

I don’t mind when people document their hobbies, but when it’s obvious they have no idea what they’re doing (from the now deleted video) and passing themselves off as professionals offering paid services, it really bothers me. It functions only to negatively impact those who are smart enough to seek out training, unbeknownst to them from people who need it themselves.
Anyways, with as much as they’ve invested in their vehicles you’d think they could afford a proper mic.. social media is hard, but they recognize this in thier video and as such, in my opinion, are asking for the critique.

Well I don't know anything about YouTube sponsorship but if it's anything like motorsports sponsorships then most people are just getting discounts. At least in that world only the top guys are getting stuff of real value (i.e. parts rather than hats and stickers) for free.
By definition, if you're getting free stuff its a sponsorship. If you're actually getting paid then you're a pro.

100% correct as far as I have seen being on the manufacturer side. Then again I don't know the minor details and fine print with some of the bigger players in Baja, etc., that we "sponsor".

I have a cabin bordering a national forest. I've found it's easy get the US Forest Service close a trail to vehicle traffic when people dump trash or deeply rut wet ground and start to widen the trail. My neighbors and I have gone out and cleaned up trash, pallets, yard trimmings, landscape rock, lots of snow toboggan fragments, lots of empty plastic water bottles.
If each visitor leaves one object, then after the snow melts, there's trash as far as your eye can see. We clean it up, show photos and the USFS will readily close a trail that's been misused and the county will put up no parking signs along nearby roadways.
If people want a trail reopened, I'll be happy to support it if they regularly come out, clean it up and repair it, fill in multiple ruts, loosen compacted ground to replant grass and bushes in places where a vehicle and walking trail is double and triple wide due to vehicle overdriving.
