how to attach spare to 4runner roll bar ?

I know people are strapping these to roll bars but I need to see how its done. any pics would be helpful thanks. I have mine strapped back there but its always coming loose because it doesn't sit up flush to any thing.

Can you weld?
I fish mouthed then welded two sections of 1" tube across the diagonal rear bars then made a mount for my spare and my jack. I dont have any great photos.

To hold straight up, against the bars on the side, I run the ratchet straps in through between the spokes or holes of the wheel. Another strap right over the tire holding it down with the hooks in the tie downs. You might up using 3-4 straps to get it to not wooble away.

I'm not real familiar with how much room you have in the back of the 1st gens (not just yet anyway ), but is there any way you can drill a hole through one of the bars and then run a 10"-12" flush mount carriage bolt (or even a piece of threaded rod with bodywasher/lockwasher/nut through the rollbar and then thru one of the stud mounting holes on the rim, and just lugnut it? Just an idea.

Clean, simple, no-weld, no-cut, reliable enuf, truck stays stock.

ON mine, PO installed after-market bumper that blocks access to crank of spare tire lift, so I had to relocate spare tire. Hope to find a swing-out tire carrier someday. For now, I just secure with a good rope and good knots.
