How to explain 5.1 surround in your T4R to your lady...visually.

u must have the jbl, its only stereo, to get 5.1 u need a good processor and better headunit. also better speakers.

Ya well my truck used to have the JBL but the previous owner took it out in favor of some really crappy speakers (and only 4 of them I might add). So I bought the JBL system to tide me over for now, but trying to get it rewired (the amp particularly) without any of the wiring harnesses is looking like it's just not worth it. No big deal, my Kenwood headunit supports/has dolby 5.1 integrated into it.
But here's my problem: the unit has regular outputs for 4 channels. The only way to get 5.1 is use the pre-outs. But I don't want to run a whole separate amp just for my center speaker in the dash. But I can't find a 5.1 channel car amp or even a 5 channel amp without bass (to run a separate amp to bass). I'm not versed too well in the way of car audio so I don't really know what to do. :ybrick:

This is what i would do:
Buy a good component system up front. Buy a coaxial in rear. Get a subwoofer. Then buy an Alpine headunit that can do Imprint/Audyssey (or any other brands that offer this type of calibration/tuning). This way, you may not need a center channel since Imprint can calibrate the system without one.
To get true 5.1 in a car is probably not worth it financially IMO. Save the money for your home system.
