How to fit 6.5" spearkers in the rear doors

6.5" in the rears do fill out the sound quite nicely. Not quite as good as the component speakers up front but now my rear passengers get to enjoy the same quality that I do up front.

I have a buddy with a 3d router, I'm going to run 1 part and see how it turns out. I can't make these at my job ( even though my shop is well equipped to crank these out) so out sourcing these is proving to be a PIA. I had used a local Maker Space with a laser cutter, but that place no longer exists.
I loaded the model into the slicing software for my 3D printer- it was about a 5 hr print per part, so that's not feasible!

I wanted to replace the 2 channel amp the prior owner had installed with a 4 channel and new rear speakers.
The guy at Crutchfield swore that a pair of 6 1/2" Polk DB 652s would fit with the included adapter.
After a wasted afternoon and early evening it became clear this was not going to work so I searched T4R and found this post. I still have no idea what these clips are for or how they're supposed to help.
I didn't have any spare acrylic laying around so I hit the local dollar store and found some plastic cutting boards. They were only 1/8" thick so I bought 4.
The Polks didn't come with a mounting pattern so I used the stock adapter as a template, holes included.
I ended up slotting the holes a bit to allow them to line up.
I traced a paint can with a 5 7/8" diamaeter and cut a hole as close to center as I could eyeball.
Everything lined up but the stock screw heads were in the way (now that I re-read your post I see that you mentioned this problem). I replaced them with some #8 flathead sheet metal screws and was able to screw them flush into the stock holes.
Doubling up the cutting boards gave me 1/4" and 7 out of 8 sheet metal screws mounting the Polks went through the material and into metal. Both speakers sure seemed solidly attached.
Everything fit back together nicely and the windows open completely without interference.
I was close to returning the speakers and going with something more "stock-sized" but your post inspired me!
Looks unprofessional behind the door panel but it gets the job done.
$4.35 for the cutting boards and $1.18 for the sheet metal screws.

I put 5 1/4” in the rear but wish I would have taken the time for the larger ones.

Did you have to make a modification to the plastic door panels, such as trimming?

I've got a local Maker-Space here in Dallas that could probably make up a batch. They just opened up recently, so I'm sure they would be eager to have a fun project.

Any updates on the Maker Space in Dallas? Would love to buy a nice set of laser/machined adapters.
I'm so glad this thread is here, realized I'll need something like a 1/2in thick adapter for my specific speakers to clear the window. Using the mentioned Amazon listing adapter might be too thin... great starting point to easily trace everything tho.
I don't have the right tools to cut 1/2in thick acrylic so maybe some nice plywood, since wood is cheaper now. Hopefully within a month I can even post my first update!
