how to get bolt loose without air tools

im trying to install a Ironman kit and need to get the lower bolt to the steering knuckle loose but I dont have any air tools. I've tried using a wrench but no matter how hard i try it wont go loose, i've even tried a mix of PB blaster and WD40

Leverage. If you have a hydraulic jack that has a removable handle take it off and slide it over the wrench. The extra leverage will break it loose. Or you could go buy 4 feet of one inch pipe from a hardware store.

Use your 1/2" drive, 6 side socket and grab a chain link pipe/post. The longer it is, the easier the pull/ breaking the torque, either it comes loose or snaps bolts. Works everytime. I Have a big rig, have to do this at times due to impact doesn't always have enough ump.

Yeah, leverage is your friend. I changed my wheel bearings with no air or power tools and the axle nut is torqued to 176 ft/lb. I put the socket on the breaker bar, put that on the nut, and got a fence post poll over the breaker bar and lifted it. Made a loud popping noise when the torque was released and that did the trick.

I think the old vw bugs have wheel bearings that need to be torqued to 256ft.lbs.


but yeah... heat and leverage.

if all else fails... verbal insults may make it move on its own.

my lower strut mount bolt was seized and i had an old torque wrench laying around that i wasnt worried about screwing up the internals on. it worked perfect for breaking it, but dont use one you need to count on for actually torquing bolts

Does that lower bolt have a rubber boot/ball joint? If not, get a propane torch and head the nut up. That'll fix it. But if it's a ball joint- you'll likely kill the boot.

This.. But youlll need at least 2" pipe or fence post.. 1" wont cut it.. Oh and have someone cheer you on lol..:whipping2
