How to help axle wrap?? It's BAD

Ok guys, you know what it is, and how much it sucks. It's an 89 with the stock axle. I've got an ad a leaf and a 4 1/2" block in the back... and it's giving me really bad axle wrap. My buddy is gunna make me some trac bars when he gets back from montana in about a month (he's an ironworker). But is there anything else I can do to help it? I didn't realize how bad it was until I watched my friend drive it, and it was scary. I tried to search this up on t4r and didn't find much. Help would be much appreciated!

Pitch the block, hoss. It's giving your driveline all sorts of leverage to wrap that axle, and is the number one cause of wrap. A traction bar will help but not eliminate it... go with new springs, or link it, but the block is what's killing you.

You hit the nail right on the head!

4RunnerTank: See my build thread. With my TG rear springs and a beefed up motor, I am not having any issues with axle wrap. I would highly suggest you ditch the lift block and lift your runner the right way. Get a better rear suspension. If the TG setup isn't in your budget then you can get just the springs and have your iron worker friend build you some spring mounts and perches. The TG springs are a 7 leaf pack and have a anti wrap leaf on the very top. I took the two lower leafs out of my pack and have a nice cushy ride with no axle wrap.

Agree with the block, those are downright scary. Are you talking axle wrap on everyday driving or strictly off road. In the sand, dirt rocks. I used to get some kicking in sand, but I learned to take air out of the tires and lay off the gas pedal. Definitely made a world of difference.
I would think traction bars would help, but it's one more thing to hang up on while your wheeling.
Is there any way to flip the rear spring hanger on Runners? I flipped my hanger on my old blazer and threw the block away. Did that about ten years ago and never had a problem.

Not to beat a dead horse, but I second (third, fourth, etc.) the motion to toss those nasty blocks--bad set-up under power, plus they wear out your springs faster. Get some proper springs first, then see if you still need traction bars.

The thing is tho... do trac bars limit the amout or flex I get? I feel like it would suffer. Heres the Budbuilt ones that I've read up on, just to see how they work. 79-95 PU & 84-89 4RunTraction Bar $399 - BudBuilt - Tough Toyota Protection

WTF is up with the upper shock mount in that first pic?!?!?! I guess it would work but can it be rigged any more?

I'm not a fan of bolt on stuff like the front of the bud built bar. I would rather see one that is welded to a bar that goes from frame rail to frame rail. It would look better and probably be a lot stronger.

The upper shock mount is another bolt on product from Budbuilt.

I wouldn't disconnect it off road, thats probably where you need it the most, you'll end up with a bent spring and a broken driveshaft in the middle of nowhere.

Your not going to out flex a traction bar (built right) with those springs and blocks. The upper shackle is there to allow it to move with the axle so it doesn't bind.

I believe Northwest Offroad has a traction bar design that is specifically for high-flex suspensions--might want to check it out.
