How to keep cupholder inserts from popping out attaching to cup?

Seems like almost every time I put a cup in the cupholder, when I go to take a drink, the rubber insert pops out, stuck to the cup. If I take the inserts out, then the cupholder is too big for most normal sized cups. Was considering screwing them down, but its nice to have the option for larger water bottles like the Hydroflasks. I also thought about rubbing some silicone or something on the inside. Curious what other people have done with this? seems like a halfway thought out design, like many things on cars seems like the designers never have to actually use stuff.

I switched to a narrower cup. Disappointing that my birthday gift from my daughter (a Yeti 20oz. cup) does that. I may just remove the insert and use the cup.

Has same problem with my FJ. I used some strong 3m two sided tape. Also try Velcro if you need to remove it from to time.

I have this problem with my coffee tumbler. If I remove the rubber insert, the tumbler rattles. I’ve gotten to where I just drink out of it with the insert stuck in there.

I think the only way around it is to change your beverage containers to fit. Ones that are tapered at the bottom seem to work better.

I made some neoprene sleeves that keep my tumblers and bottles from clanking around without the OEM insert.

If a cup or travel mug is big enough that it's pulling out the rubber, it should be fine staying upright without it. I've never had a problem. I generally leave one insert in and the other out (stored in the glove box in case I want it).

I used velcro. Easy to remove if I need to. The velcro I used is a bit strong so sometimes it pulls off of the rubber insert so I used a little bit of gorilla glue just to secure it even more.

Hmm, I thought of Velcro but wondered if it would raise it up too much or cause the insert to wobble around. Now that I think about it I may have some low-profile industrial Velcro in my travel trailer. Next time I get it out of storage I may try this.

I used industrial strength velcro. Works well for what it is and going strong for the last year. Also you can remove it if need to be to clean it or fit a larger cup.

With the Yeti cups I twist on the way up as has been mentioned. This works well. I mainly just avoid the Yeti cups and others that large now though, kind of not worth the hassle.

I'd say some velcro or double sided tape would solve the issue though if you weren't willing to use a different cup...lol
