How to keep DRL on

since DRL only use 1 of 2 fillament for DRL/Signal, i can used the other fillament (it's not used for anything because there's only 2 wires + -) and connect it to the parking light (the one on the headlight).

So the DRL goes on with one element when the parking light is switched on and the other element when all the other lights are off (standard DRL function), nice setup but how did you make the first picture work because the parking light is still on or was this before the mod?

Did this mod a month ago. YSutarko was spot on. There is a second unused filament in the DRL bulb. Just tie this filament to the upper parking lights.

To do this, you will have to add another pin to the stock bulb connector. There is a blank in the connector with a rubber stopper. I pulled the stopper with needle nose pliers. I then found a pin left over from my stereo upgrade in a connector I had cut out for the speakers. It's exactly the same pin in all of the toyota harnesses and fit the connector just fine. I drilled a small hole in the rubber stopper and put the pin and a wire through it. The wire is tapped to the upper parking lights. Worked GREAT!

People who do not have stock DRL, do not have 4157's in the front, they have 7440. It is a single faliment with a smaller diameter (more of a narrow bulb). The bad news is that the sockets are NOT the same size as the 4157 sockets, the 7440 sockets are smaller. This isn't a *real* big deal, since you could go with the 7443 (the dual filament counterpart) , but in order to do this mod, you would have to switch out the sockets to add 7443 sockets for access to both filaments. So, it may be a little more involved for those of you who have added the DRL yourself. Keep in mind I have an 04 Sport and believe that this would be the same across the board.

Hey Tom,
I have a question about what you are saying. My 03 4Runner did not have DRL until I did the DRL Relay Mod. However, about a month later, the original stock bulbs burned out. When I looked at the manual, I decided to get the DRL Bulbs, not the Non DRL bulbs since now I have DRL. However, when trying to put the glass bulb into the plastic electrical socket adapter thing, it doesn't fit. So I ended up buying the same Non-DRL type bulb again. After reading what you said, are you saying all I need to do is to purchase the little plastic socket adapter, connect it to the end of the wireing harness and then put the DRL bulb and it will work? (Dual Filiment = DRL, Single = non DRL)
