Not sure if it helps....Tried the same process on my buddy's 15' Tundra with no luck. Have to hook a computer up to it with the software.
May be the same for the 4R.

Take your registration and go to your Toyota dealership. Parts/Service Dept should be able to get you a new master key.

I have no idea about the cost; but it's a place to start. Don't know where to go to program a new key w/o a master. Yeah, I would think it might be expensive. But it's the place to start.

You don't mention the year of your vehicle, but as I understand it (and from my own experience with 4th gens), the master key is black, and the valet key is grey. To be sure, take it to a Toyota dealer, and they should be able to tell you.

If it's black and will unlock the doors, glovebox, and start your 4Runner it's a Master Key, the gray Valet key will unlock the doors, start your 4Runner but it will not unlock the glovebox, if you have both they should work as described above, both keys have a chip and have to be programed to your 4Runner or they will only unlock the doors, ignition and allow the starter to function but will not allow the 4Runner to start.

I bought a couple with the fob head. Got them cut and programmed to start no problem. Can't get the buttons to program though. Must have gotten the wrong frequency.

HYQ12BBY was the code on the key I bought. I think it's for a Corolla.

Sorry, I have a 2007. Got it. I didn't get a grey key, but I do have the black key.

My local dealer begrudgingly cut two Amazon knockoff blanks for me using the VIN after checking my registration and ID. Said they had a policy of not doing it as they could mess the blank up. I convinced them to give it a try.

Took it home and it took a few tries and I had to do the extra erase sequence but it finally worked. Thanks a ton!

One note to mention is the fresh cut was a little stiff in the door and tailgate but worked. The glovebox however requires a little wiggling and once locked or unlocked would not reverse. I can deal with that and hopefully it will loosen up with age.

It's been a while but I seem to remember the keys being tight also. I used a little sandpaper and "softened" the edges.. that seemed to help.

Thanks. They are already loosening up and glove box works both ways now, it's just a little stiffer than the old master key.
