how to take off inside mirror

i want to change my inside rear view mirror to a compass, auto-dimming mirror and need to take off the existing mirror.

i saw information on taking off the black cover or sticking a screwdriver in the slot and wiggling the mirror off the mount.

i half heartedly tried both of those and neither one seemed to be working for me.

how do i take off the inside plain rear view mirror.

thanks

Assuming you have the standard mirror, there is a cover to take off. Under it is a claw at the bottom. Push the claw away from the windshield and lift up on the mirror. It should slide up.

The new mirror should use the same mounting.

Maybe this will help:

John:

diagram was perfect.

either i am getting old and weak or they are putting these things on better than when i was younger.

i needed a vise grips to get the plastic cover off.......
then, after playing with a screwdriver, i used my finger to move the claw (or tab) to unlock the mirror and then it slid off easily.

next week i have to run the wires for my new (used) electrochromic mirror.

thanks for the help.

i may be old but not weird -- yet.
i did put the mirror on for the week.

the next weekend i ran my wires.
i combined the ground and reverse lights and wrapped them around a bolt below the fuses.
i had a fuse splitter that i got from pep boys or something.
i tried a few fuses until i hit one that worked off the ignition.
just tied the 12v wire to the fuse splitter and was done.

did have to re-zone the mirror though.
when i was going west, it read northwest.
now all is well.

can't figure out another 'project'
i replaced the radio with a scion radio.
sounds much better.
did the mirror.

oh well, i'll find something else one of these days.

thanks for the help.

Just check everyone's signature -- you'll find something else to mod!
