How do you guys clean your truck when it's covered in mud? Do you just spend $20 at the carwash with the power washer? How do you clean under the Hood? Can you spray down the engine bay?

The first cleaning is important, but I find not just one good cleaning, but lots of washes, as mud begins to settle in little places, the more you wash it the better it turns out. I go to the DIY bays and spray the hell out of it for what seems like 30 mins. You can spray under the hood, but don't blast it as you might knock something loose, or get water in something you don't want water in.
Another trick is finding a place to park your truck for a bit and throw one of those curved yard sprinkler things under it and keep moving it around every 5 mins or so to help knock loose some of the crap under the truck.
The best thing you can do to clean it is just to avoid mud, I used to love that as a kid, but 10 years later I will avoid the stuff at all costs, it just is such a PITA and is much more trouble than its worth.
I also look forward to the first rain after I have been wheeling, and when it rains I try and drive my truck as much as I can, because the tires will help spray the water up under the truck in the same places it slings mud on the trail.

I just did my first serious off-roading yesterday and she got SUPER muddy (even on the roof) so I was curious about the best way to approach the cleaning process.
I just spent $20 and an hour at the carwash with the power washer getting most of the mud off, I even took my ramps and ramped up the front and back so I could get the underbody really well. I took the powerwasher to the engine bay but very gently, there's still a lot of dirt/mud in there, I'm not sure how I'll ever get it out :0/

you can get a "Water Jet" hose attachment at Home Depot for 19.99 ... its not as strong as a pressure washer, but a little stronger than just a garden hose

I don' think you want to spray wd-40 on anything rubber
Go to those Coin-Opt Self Car Wash & spend anywhere from $10 - $20.
Spray everything EXCEPT under the hood.
For under the hood, use Garden Hose Water Pressure & get everything. Be sure to spray 409 or any eqivalent All-Purpose Cleaner on your radiator and spend some good time spraying that off. You will be surprise how much dirt comes out of there.
