how'd you do blackout your emblems?

Are you able to spray this stuff directly onto a clearcoat and have it apply properly?

I would paint the front, center section of the front fascia of an SR5/Limited to make it look similar to a Trail Edition...without having to sand that entire area on a newly painted vehicle. What do you guys think?
 
Edit: it depends what color you want, if you like the flat black then use the plastidip. If another color is desired taking them off isn't too bad, its getting them back on that kinda sucks. if you try the 3m tape it is a PITA i would reccomend the 3M decal glue. (much easier) i just did this too but went for the black pearl, I think it is recommended to use an adhesive promoter too as a primer and it will get the paint to stick a lot better. I just picked some up at auto zone. but year there are all kinds of options out there though! i love the turn out. fricken sweet! here is my post

You dont even have to remove the emblems from the vehicle when you Plasti-Dip.

Just mask off the area with a rectangle. And spray. The Plasti-dip will come right off the paint, but stay on the emblem. People have been doing this for quite a while. You can even Plasti-Dip Wheels!

I just did the emblems on my Lexus IS350.

The back plate came out nice as well! How do you think Plasti Dip would hold up on the black plastic SR5 fender flares? I'm thinking of tackling my emblems, back plate and flares with this stuff for the weekend.

That 3m decal glue is awfully stringy and messy. I hated it. I'm sure there are other options out there but I will personally stay away from it the next time.

I sprayed every piece of plastic on the outside of my 4Runner with plasti dip and it has been great. I taped everything off....just be careful when you are pulling the tape off b/c it could pull the paint you sprayed off since it is rubberized. Overall I love the look of it and it was easy. I used a few coats.

yes it is lol! i hated it too but i started with the 3m tape and was cutting those pieces out... it got so frustrating! but yes totally agreed the glue is some nasty stuff. and for painting your emblems if your taking them off give yourself a few days for the project.

that perfect match duplicolor primer, color, and clear coat is what I used.. i think it was called metallic black.

Plasti Dip is awesome

I just did my emblems and license plate holder. It looks great and I didn't have to remove anything! Just sprayed a light first coat and did progessively heavier appplications. All in all I did 4 coats on emblems, 5 on plate holder. Thanks for the info gents!
