The prices quoted to me by the dealership closest to me were comparable to what I found online. I thought Sankei was an okay brand, but I guess I've learned a lesson. Kinda like voting third party, because anything other than Republican or Democrat is sh*t. :hail: :wtf:

Definitely get rid of the aftermarkets and go OEM. I changed mine to aftermarket eBay shit when I first got the car as I knew the ball joints were an issue, however the issue of the aftermarket failures hadn't been well documented yet. Learnt my lesson a few months ago, would have done around 40-50,000km's at the max since install and the drivers side ball joint popped after going over a speed bump at around 20km/h. Got it towed to the mechanic and they charged me $800 to replace both sides, I asked for OEM and they 'couldn't order them in time' so replaced them with aftermarket again. Now I've ordered some OEM joints off Amazon ($315 AUD for both lowers) after I got quote $415 AUD EACH (which is about $320 USD) from my local Toyota dealer. There's no excuse for cheaping out if you can get OEM parts for $30 than aftermarket.

Just order through Camelback, way cheaper than what you are looking at. I paid $80 each at my local dealer.

My failure was when I was fully locked turning. My buddy had two failures. One offroading and the other was flipping a U-turn. Maybe has something to do with it.

Yeah it makes more sense to fail then, since the tie rods are pushing/pulling a lot harder on that ball joint. Going straight on a freeway doesn't put much stress on the joints.

I agree that most failures will occur when at hard turn. Definitely when the joint will see the most stress.

So, the Sankei's are just an overpriced ripoff? I wouldn't think they would advertise the parts like this if they were of any questionable quality.

Going 3rd party to be different or cool is fine with most of life,but with car parts, I'd say go with what everyone else has. You might not stand out from the crowd but at least you know your stuff will work.

OP sorry to hear about your LBJ failure. I recently replaced mine and actually ordered moog lbj's from amazon and once I received them i saw how poorly packaged they were. Grease popped during shipping saturated the lbj and bag; immediately i decided not to use them and bought OEM lbj's. Cost more but saved me the headache, time, and money in the long run after installing them.

I dont care how they advertise. I know a member just posted stating his Sankei ITRE's loosened up in less than 30k miles and wish he went with OEM. I have an OEM ITRE's with over 270k miles and is still solid.

We buy Toyota's for there reliability. Why would one put non OEM parts into a Toyota that is arguably the most reliable cars on the road.

I have these Senkei 555 Made in Japan LBJs on my 4runner. I added the zirk fitting and have been greasing them one a year. I'm a little worried. I wish I got the OEM LBJs. Not sure what I was thinking at the time. They weren't even cheaper than OEM. I paid $80 and you could find OEM online for the same price.

I have 61,000 miles on the 555s. I don't think they are crap but wish I had the piece of mind of having Toyota parts.

Okay, I concede to agree with the masses, as my non-conforming hipster ideals have clearly caused an upheaval in the Toyota driving world. The OEM ball joints will be here tomorrow, as I ordered them this weekend.

In retrospect, I can see where my haste to get my vehicle back on the road may have caused me to make a poor decision. I figured a name brand would have been a safe bet, but I suppose OEM is safe as it gets. Would I have been fine with the Sankei joints? Probably, as I use the truck for commuting and hunting, and not much else. I think a major part of the joint's failure was the 25 mph slam into the ditch that caused its early failure. However seeing as how the failure was my second lucky moment this month, I guess I shouldn't press it. I will let you know if I notice any significant difference in the Sankei joint vs the OEM joint in regards to quality, effect on steering, etc.

Hey [MENTION=50342]JayRolla[/MENTION], looking to buy some ball joints? Got 40 miles on them and they look like new! I should have asked you to 3D print me a set, but I imagine I would have only received a 3D rendering of your middle finger. Thanks for the input!
