I finally did it. But now I need tire recommendations

I finally bought my third gen! 1999 SR5 4wd with 213K on it. Excited beyond belief.

Right off the bat I need new tires, at least on the front but I'm thinking it may be better to just do all 4. Would love a recommendation for combo on/off road tires, below the $170 price point.

You need to do all four, or only use the 4WD on limited traction surfaces. The differences in diameter between new tires and worn tires (and tires from different brands) are significant enough to cause serious binding on pavement. So if you're planning on using 4WD for snow driving where you'll have patches of pavement in between, replace all four and keep them rotated regularly.

For decent A/T tires you are looking at $190ish/tire. I am in the same boat as you, I need front tires. But I am just going to replace all 4 with either Duratrac's or BFG A/T KO2's. Both are around $190ish.

Congrats on your purchase. Do you plan on a lift anytime soon?? If no LT265/75/16 on stock rims. I had cooper AT3 c rated on my 96 really liked them on and off road and in the snow. Can find them fairly cheap through DTD u just missed there July 4th sale.

That is assuming you keep a standard load rating...once you jump to a E rating your starting at 190ish to 290ish. BFG load E will be 250.00ish.

I like the Coopers I also like the Nitto Terra Grapplers. I haven't run BFG's in over 13 years. I had Goodyear MTR's before they changed them, but those are not cheap at all.

No Snow, live in Austin Texas so the worst I'll have is slick roads from rain, and then a bit of light trail going. Nothing too crazy

16" are a bit cheaper. Right now the KO2's in 16" only come in load range E and they are under $200. Same for the load range E Duratrac's.

With LT tires u get more tread depth more aggressive look and also a harsher ride. I had C rated AT3's and I felt every crack in the road, tires aired down to 28-30psi. I dont know if the harsh ride was from the C rated tires or recently installed shocks/struts stock Monroe sensatracs.

I second these tires. I have had them on my Runner for about 9,000 miles and they have been great for me.

Americas Tire (Discount Tire outside of California) has them at $145 a tire plus a $70 prepaid debit card rebate when you buy four. This is the same deal I had when I got mine.

So far I'm happy enough with them that I'll buy them again unless something were to change.

I should add that the Cooper ATP tires are made exclusively for America/Discount Tire. You won't find them elsewhere that I know of. As to the quality, they are very similar to the Cooper AT/3's....but better looking in my opinion.

Here is a good article on AT tires that talks about and compares a few of the major players in the AT tire department. Cooper AT/3s came in 1st overall.

How have you liked them so far? Performing well? The only thing I would be concerned about is performance on wet roads.
