I got sirius and installed the Sportster Replay

Took less than a day, thanks to the help of you folks for the install ideas and helpful tips..... I mounted the antennae on the roof behind the spoiler, ran the wire along the usual route to the center console. Bought an add-a-circuit, chopped off the cig lighter adapter to the unit, and hardwired the tuner to the ACC fuse area (I think it's Fuse #43 or #44, I forget). Lastly, the tuner's lineout connects directly to my JVC head unit.

I used the universal mounting bracket from Bracketron, $30 at Best Buy. After seeing everyone else's installs and thinking about where I wanted to put this, I decided that I didn't want to use Dr.Dremel or Dr.Dewalt for this operation. Soooo, no cutting, no drilling: I just bent the bracket in certain spots and then tucked it between the dash console and the center console. When the centerpiece snapped in, it really tightened up on the bracket and now it's as secure as if it were bolted. (well, close, but not quite). It doesn't move and that's all I was concerned about at this time. Plus it's a bit higher up than the 4runner bracket and there should be no problems with passenger knees banging it. I also didn't want a permanent install yet because I'm still thinking about putting a carputer and 7" touch screen monitor somewhere around that area.

I just got my Sirius sportster, and looking for clean install.
Could you please tell me how did you run your wires for antenna and power.

You'll need to remove 2 screws from under the steering wheel console first, then you just kinda loosen up that long piece under the steering wheel. That will free up the left side of the center part. The silver center cover piece just snaps out - no screws. It's tight. Be careful and take your time. I suggest starting at the bottom right hand side, below the glove box. Grab and pull that larger corner piece and that side will pop right out - then you can work your way up the right side, over the top, and down the left side.

If you search around this site, you'll find a couple of people who have done writeups about routing their antennae from the spoiler area to the center console. (I don't want to re-rewrite what's already been said. But, believe me, spend the time searching threads in this forum because the writeups and diagrams will save you alot of time and you'll come to find out it's VERY easy.

I tucked the antennae cable underneath the plastic part of the center floor console - right where it meets the carpet. It's tight in spots, but it'll get in there. I forced the cable under the plastic by using one of those paint can openers that they give away for free at Home Depot. By the way, that tool also doubles as a beer bottle opener, so if you use it, keep it handy for when you are done with this project. When you get to the area near the shifter, you can pull the cable up from the center area (cup holder area) because the top will pop out.

No need to remove the center console. This is the antennae run. I'll make it more permanent when it gets warmer outside and I feel like taking the time to velcro this down or something. And, please don't mind the mess. I'm embarrased. It never looks like that.

I don't know the fuse, number, I'm sorry.... but if you remove the little panel to the lower left of the steering wheel - look at the backside of the panel. You'll see the fuse layout listed there. I used the one called "ACC". The add-a-circuit is plugged in there. I grounded the circuit on some random screw which already has a ground lug under it - but I couldn't take a pic of that because it's inside the center console, in the area right behind the flimsy tray that opens up. You have to remove the whole silver center console to see it. Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Thanks for the pic. I found the fuse. The is couple empty ones you can use that is ON even when key is not in ignition. I am not sure what will be better to use. Sportster have replay option, that i would be using.
So if you connect to ACC fuse then let say if you park the car and go to the store shopping then you cannot pause the radio and then playback later. If you connect to always ON then you can pause the radio, lock the car and shop, come back and replay the show time that you missed.

What you folks think on this issue??

Did you drill the hole in the console for the wires next to glove compartment??

Excellent thinking about that "always on" fuse.... I too have the Sportster replay and have thought about using a hot wire instead of ACC - and subsequently using the tuner's on/off switch.... but I did that once with foglights on my jeep and I probably left those suckers on a few hundred times because I forgot to flip the switch when I parked the car. So I chose the safe way here. I guess I could always change it if I wanted to, it'll only take a few seconds.

No drilling at all. The wires came through the hole inside the glove compartment that leads to the upright center console. Teh just come out the side of the door when shut. When I shut the glove compartment door, it just kinda smoooooshes the wires, but they're ok. I leave enough slack in them so that they don't get pulled on every time. I have to slam the door shut, but it beats drilling holes in my opinion. I'm still not sure this will be the final mounting place for this tuner, so I didn't want to make it permanent at all.

What size fuse did you use for sirius? Do u know the power that this unit pulls? If doesn't pull to much power then will be no problem leaving on over overnight.

Switch is good , but you really don't need one, just turn the radio off: .
What i have on my car is remote starter that has option to setup to vacation mode: when voltage on the battery drops below 11v the car starts automatically runs for 10 min and then shuts off. I think i will use this option.
Another option you can use is sleep timer on sirius radio, it will turn off the unit after 15 to 60min intervals.

(by "switch", I mean the one on the tuner itself... I'd still have a problem turning the tuner off once I get the alarm in my 4r I bet)

But wait... alas.... a Sleep timer on the tuner???!! That RULES.... !!!!! I will move my addacircuit to a hot fuse location promptly and use that feature on the tuner!!!!

what size fuse did I use? Not sure. 10 probably. I will pull apart the cigarette adapter that I chopped off of the cord and see what's in there, if there is a fuse in there.
