I Have 2WD. Should I trade up to 4WD or keep as is?

Folks,

I know this is very subjective question. I may be answering my own question but I still wanted to know what you learned folks think.

I have 2005 2WD SR5 with about 70K miles, silver, leather, nice n clean. I've had it for about 6 months now. Since I bought I added spoiler, visor shade, bugflector, daystar 2.5/1.5 level kit is in garage and about to order BFW AT KO. At the time that was a good deal ($17K) and I went for it, since somebody totalled my car and I needed a ride.

But lurking on this forum and seeing the off-road pics some folks posted I feel like instead of spending more on this 2WD I should upgrade to 4WD and then spend money on lift, tire, roof rack, bumper etc.

I live in North Dallas and drive mostly work commute on the road. Though I hardly ever go off-roading (having 2WD makes me not take it out) I feel that I should have an option to go off-roading and even the looks as I love lifted look with nice tires, bumper etc.

So just wanted to know should I keep it or upgrade with same year but 4WD. How about leather or no leather? its about $1500 difference
How about Sports Ed. or just SR5?
Should I be looking at under $20K for a decent 4Runner?

Any feedback would be appreciated.

You'd be amazed how much crap your 2WD can get through. If you don't use it.....don't need it and just want it....well find your priorities lol I also have a 2WD and bought it knowing I didn't need 4WD. I bought mine based on how clean it was and miles. I was okay with 4WD or 2WD but a clean, well taken car of 4Runner was my focus.

If you ain't rock climbing or getting one wheel off the ground.....2WD will get you where you want.

If you do it spring for the Limited, you get lot of really nice features and not a big cost difference

What kind of wheeling do you do?

I have been to many places in 2wd from mud to snow including Top of the World in Moab, Utah.

Maybe just think about installing a rear locker.

You will be amazed what you can do in 2wd, just need to pick the right lines and have a good spotter.
