Had to lol I live in Toledo where the Jeeps are built. Im sure there solid just not my cup of tea
It's cool. I'm not expecting an abundance of support from a Toyota forum. If I went to a Jeep forum saying the opposite then I would get the same if not more people saying for me to not switch.
I never really had anything against Jeeps. I still love Toyota's too. I just want something that is newer with more comfy goodies for a daily driver and still something with an open platform... soft top. If Toyota made a 2013 4Runner or FJ Cruiser with an open platform then I may get one... too bad they don't.
The more and more I think about it, the more I wish I traded in my 03 4runner for a Jeep instead of a Tundra. For what I want, it makes sense and fits the bill

Alright.
Solution. Buy a 3rd gen with a supercharged V6 and a 5-speed. Then chop the roof off a couple inches behind the front windshield, then cut down after the back doors all around. Then you're left with a windshield and 4 doors that are above the hood. Then build a full roll cage. Pay some guy to make a custom soft top. You're ready to roll.
Yup... Then I have 25k wrapped into a 4runner that's worth maybe 10-15k to the right person. That's the main reason why I'm getting rid of my 1st gen. I don't want to dump a ton of money into something that has minimal return if I end up getting rid of it. If I buy a 30k Jeep and put 10k into it, I will most likely have a 30-35k Jeep still. They hold their value very well and are still functional for what I need.

Im not saying there not a good truck, I just see so many of them,that,I'm just "Meh" about Em. There are some very nice modded Jeeps and are very capable I just prefer the Barebones style of my 1st gen.
And I've pulled numerous Jeeps out of snow and mud and crap in 2wd and they got stuck in 4wd low.......they always asked if I was locked in, and my reply is nope 2wd. But that's been years ago since I've driven it( bad tranny, so now it sits in the driveway)
