I have taken the plunge!

I'm thinking I should just buy it. Anyone want to buy a built 2nd gen? Lifted and locked with a little armor and a perfectly good 3.0?

That's something Nate would build :D

Um no, 54's are way too much for a dana 60. To go that big you have to get into 2.5 ton rockwell stuff.

But i will go overboard again... just wont be lifted but maybe 4" and 37's is as big as ill go.

The original Bigfoot only had 48" tires! 54's are just nuts. Forget steps to get into that Jeep--you'd need an elevator (or one of those airport rolling staircases). Some people just have too much money, and not enough intelligence to put it to good use--that Jeep is nearly useless for anything but mud bogs.

I haven't really been able to get a good look at things on the jeep yet but my goal is 35's with no lift and a long travel suspension with coilovers.

Agreed! If I can learn how to use a 4link calculator I may look at options for extending the wheel base a little bit on both the front and back, minimal lift and 37's. That would be sweet to have a 90* approach angle with 2-3" lift (if not less) and 37's. But I would most likely have to grab some 60's to handle the 37's... not sure. From what I understand, the r&p on the d40's are a 8.75" which makes them bigger and stronger than the toyota axles, but it's the axle ends on the jeep d40's that are the weak point. We'll see... I gotta get the darn thing before I get that far in depth in the planning. I wish I can just fast forward 4 months!

What about 40's on a d30, how do you think that'll work? :D

That IS pretty stupid on their part--shows that, while they may have thrown a lot of money at this thing, the parts they've chosen prove they really don't know wheeling. This is nothing but a high-dollar poser--the large diameter of the wheels won't allow the tires to work properly, and that Dana 30 will snap like a twig after a few outings. Heck, the 44 is marginal, if anyone actually tries to use this for crawling. Nothing but an expensive show pony.

looks like an 8 lug conversion? cant really tell. It is supercharged so the dana 30 shafts and joints would explode if that thing ever got bound up. Judging by the pictures i would say on-road use only.

Agreed! I have seen a few good threads on jkowners and pirate where people have sleeved and trussed their d44 axles. I can also get some stronger axles that has burfields instead of u-joints. It won't exactly be a d60 but with that, it should hold up fine to 37" tires.

I know what you are thinking and RCV's are spendy!

Yes they are but they're still a LOT cheaper than a new d60 axle. If they allow me to safely run 37's then it's a good upgrade. I can truss the axle, put some trusses on the upper "C" of the ear of the axle then throw some RCV's in there and I'll be golden like a shower!
