they didn't base the 2009- 4runner on any tacoma as far as looks, so its safe to assume they won't base the next 4r on a tacoma either...especially since the 2016 tacoma is the same 2005 tacoma as far as the cab/frame. they put in a new drivetrain and used new materials on the frame, redesigned the sheet metal and interior...but its the same truck. I owned a 2012 and when i sat i the 2016 it was the same truck, i could see right through all the new stuff. It rode the same, steerings the same, brakes are the same, goes over bumps the same. Its a little quieter inside (still too noisy) and they finally got rid of the damn drivetrain vibration under hard acceleration (it only took swapping out the entire drivetrain) but thats about it as far as how it drives.
as you can tell, i wasn't a fan of the 2005-2014 Tacoma model. at least not in the TRD OR package. it was not a good truck IMO.
