I just ran a carfax on my 4Runner and..

Its had odometer tamper. It has not had any accidents, flood, theft, anything like that. However there was a failed emissions inspection. At 230,469 miles. The next thing on the report is the vehicle being sold and registered. With 120,285 miles ! :wtf: Ok, well that means my truck has twice the mileage I thought it did, no big deal. I also was told it just had $2k worth of work done to it at the Toyota dealer, which is it's last record on the report. When I clicked the link to see the service record, I was taken to the following site. NWS! link deleted by moderator -- user warning -- another such link will result in permanent ban :wow2:


Something is fishy with my truck, and it's not the last service.



Anybody interested in a 4Runner with 260k miles and a locked motor? :moping:

Sounds like you have a small claims court case on your hands. You can sue the person you bought it from for that, and I would jump on that.

Sounds like you have a small claims court case on your hands. You can sue the person you bought it from for that, and I would jump on that.

We paid $150 for the truck, and the odo fraud was done before she got the truck. I talked to the lady we got it from, it was her daughters car. She said her husband had it for years before he gave it to her. She thinks it may have had the engine replaced, that's why its got the lower mileage cluster, to keep track of miles on the motor.

She also said the head gaskets, timing belt, and water pump where replaced, along with the Toyota batter ($170) all at the dealer just before the engine locked up.




I'm just going to be looking for a new motor for it. This one is screwed.

What are you worried about. I paid $300 for a parts truck with a shot trans.

What do you think has locked the motor?

Sounds like a great project truck! Or maybe sell it for a profit as a parts truck.

Or better yet, if you have the space to junk it yourself, take off all the parts and sell them on eBay. You'll probably get a few grand for the individual parts.

Then scrap whatever metal is left for some more cash.

What do you think has locked the motor?

Well I talked to the lady who had it. We think maybe her daughter forgot to check the oil and it ran out and locked up. We can not get it unlocked, so it's going to need either a bottom end rebuild (since it's got brand new head gaskets) or a new motor.
