i need a question answered now about oil fouled plugs

i have a car, not my 4runner (knock on wood) that is fouling plugs.... what do you guys use to prevent oil from getting in the cylinders? i belive it is from my rings, but a compression test i will do tomorrow will help me.

I don't think it can be prevented...wear & tear right?

I had an 1985 MR2 back in the days, 66,00 miles.

I had this in 1999 or 2000, low miles on an old car, not always good news.

I was a teenager when I had it, oil all in the spark plugs.

Did a compression test & diagnostic check at the dealer, the Piston Rings were gone.

Needed to rebuild, dad didn't think it was worth it, I was sad for a little, but I was glad he got rid of it.

you are right about the wear and tear, but this engine was rebuilt in the early 1990's anyways i just got back from working on it for an hour,


and i decided to try and clean the plugs, not by talking them out but pouring marvel misters in the carb....


BINGO that worked, but it smoked up the whole garage and the fumes were getting to my head (yes the door was open and my big industrial fan was a blowing)


and i took it out for a test drive! sweetness no more $H!T in my cylinders and the plugs seemed fine.... just wait and see what tomorrow brings!

Also try a heavier weight oil. it won't fix it but it should definatly help out.

This problem can also be from worn intake valve seals. You may also have a stuck PCV valve.

you install this into your plug hole, and then the plug. It is supposed to reduce the plugs exposure to the oil. You can use them on a maximum of half your cylinders. (3 on a 6cyl)

Most auto parts stores sell them in the universal parts section-Brands like "Needa" or "Help"

You can walk in and be like Help I Needa saprk plug non fouler or two

SHOOTMYMIME- Do yourself a favor and get rid of that vehicle before its to late!! Trust me when I say this. I have had experiences in the past with oil soaked plugs on other vehicles and it will end up destroying your engine. The only proper way to solve the problem is a rebuild. All the other quick fixes that have been mentioned and even yours are not going to work for any extended period of time. Seriously man, find yourself another 4runner and get rid of the one you have. Thats just my opinion.

thanks guys, but reading threw your comments this is what i came up with... i brought a spark plug into the shop today, (i work at a mechanic garage) and my boss said it was not oil, but was running rich! so that will be an easy fix!


so after reading your guys post this is it...

i am using 20-50 oil, and that what this engine calls for,

i am not going to get rid of this vehicle, and i have showed it on the site a few times... and it is not my 4runner... its a 1971 ford mustang with a 351C (big V8 engine) and i dont really care about an engine rebuild... i can do that my self with my tools... here is a picture of the car i ahve been talking about

What carb are you running on it? Or do you have enough info to get it set up right?

yeah its a 2bbl auto light 2100D, i ahve a bunch of online paid subscriptions that i can work on any car of anyyear because of where i work, and i have a lot of work manuals about this car... so its going to be an easy fix, right now it runs great!

:bugeye: Ya, I feel like a dumbass!! Makes more sense now. Does the carb have air/fuel screw? Or you could just open up the intake to compenstate for the richness. Im sure you know what your doing. I'll just shut up now! lol

If it's got the plastic floats better check 'em. After awhile they tend to soak up gas and get really heavy.

drmorbius i just rebuilt the carb after all this... and the float was fine...

but i did add a stock more restrictive air cleaner, that would have a big part in rich/lean mixture,

i wonder if i can change the idol air adjustment screws... that will require more reading to see what they need to be set to....
