I need help! 1988 4runner

I just bought the 4runner and was told that the back window wont roll down. I got it home and started looking at it. It almost seems like there is no power to the back door. I got the window down by connecting a battery straight to the motor. But other that that, nothing. I checked the removeable top safety switch and replaced it because it was broke and still nothing. The one thing I do notice that is constant is that the back door light on the instrument panel wont go off even with the tailgate shut. Any opinions are greatly appreciated. Thank you

Make sure the tailgate is locked, and wiper is in the fully parked position as well.
The next thing would be the control module, they go bad.

To add to this ^^^^, also verify that all your hard-top bolts are in place and tight (especially on the drivers side). One of the bolts acts as a ground for the tailgate.

Although, if you're getting a light on your dash, your ground is probably secure. Won't hurt to check though.

The only time I get a light on my dash, is when my tailgate is unlocked. Could be a problem with your locking mechanism.
