I need more buying advice for this Sat.

OK, I've decided on the V8. Is the Sport V8 really that different than an SR5 V8? I know the sport has XREAS and bigger rear brakes. But the only sport V8 I can get a deal on is white. White was my last color choice, I don't know why, I've just never had a white car. Is the XREAS and brakes worth paying a little extra for?

You plannin to lift your 4runner? if so, you might consider not getting the sports as the xreas will be a significant limitation on what you're capable of doing.

otherwise it's still a very capable rig :) just food for thought.

btw, you shouldn't have to settle for any vehicle since you're payin $$$, if you want a specific color then ask for it and make sure you get the same deal or walk.

How tall are you ? I am not sure how the Sport is configured in the US but in Canada it comes with the sunroof, which does reduce headroom - if you do not have electric seats the headroom can be quite tight on the passenger side with no ability to adjust seat height on that side.

I tried my best but I ended up going for the SR5 over the sport just because of this one issue.
 
I have V6 SE. XREAS is the reason I chose SE.

In east coast, many SE come without moonroof. You can check carmax for available options.

I would ask or wait for the color and price I decided.
 
The XREAS definitely makes a difference in cornering. It reduces bodyroll and doesn't give you the feeling that you are in a top-heavy SUV. It is definitely a great option to get on the 4Runner. Even if you are planning on lifting, I think a few members on the board installed lifts even with XREAS. In the New York and New Jersey region, all sports have sunroofs and it is hard to get one without it. It all depends on what region you live in. For example, some regions have almost all the sports with the JBL sound system and in the NY/NJ region, you can only get the standard system.

If you really hate a white car and will not be happy with it, then it is not worth settling because of XREAS. If you are spending this much money on a vehicle, you should be happy with the color as well as the performance. To tell you the truth, the best thing would be to actually test drive an SR5 and Sport to get the feeling for XREAS and a non-XREAS 4Runner. Good luck with your purchase!!

I thought the same thing as you but the Limited does not have the capability to adjust the passenger seat height either. Doesn't matter if you have power or non-power seats, they all move in the same direction. If I remember correctly, the GX470 does not have the ability to adjust the passenger seat height either.

When I went to Laurel Toyota (Carmax) to buy my 04 V6 SE. There were not too many of them with sunroof.
I just went to their website and found not too many of them are WITHOUT sunroof. Very interesting.
 
Simply put, if the dealer wants your business, they'll find the vehicle to your exact specs in your region. You may not be able to drive off the lot this SAT with the car, but you can leave knowing you didn't have to settle for less than what you wanted.

The price for the same vehicle (equipment) shouldn't change based on the vehicle color.

Tell 'em to get you the same vehicle in the color you want or just walk. $100 says they don't let you walk.

Also could try www.carsdirect.com.

do a seach here and read what people have said about them. No negotiations, no settling for less. The prices they offer are probably just as good as what you're working with your dealers now. You may end up paying a couple hundred more thru carsdirect, but you'll definately get EXACTLY what you want. And probably get it in a few days time. Bottom line.
 
He let me walk. I didn't buy the white one. The car was at Carmax in Kenosha, $29998. total, sticker was $35100. I felt like it was a good price. It looks like the car's gone because it isn't showing up on line now.

They told me there weren't any in his region he could get before my appraisal runs out, 7 days or 300 miles. So they're basically going to lose a sale! I don't get it.

The ironic thing, there's three or four in the Indianapolis area but they won't come close to the price Carmax is offering. I'm thinking I should've bought the white one. I'm hoping they removed it b/c I placed it on hold when I filled out the credit app. So, maybe they think it sold to me?
 
Don't get frustrated and go back. Trust me, the sales guy will be calling you in a couple days.

Did you go to carsdirect.com yet?

If there are any in the region, they'll find it.
 
don't let the stealer drop your appraisal if your over three hundred miles.from the time i got appraisal until they found my truck i had 750 miles .they tryed to change the deal and i told em if they did they could keep the truck they brought in for me and walked out.the following day i got a call from sales manager,he wanted to know what it would take and i told him i wanted the deal we agreed on .it wasn't my fault it took three weeks to find the truck.he knew i was serious and he agreed,picked it up the following day.hold your ground and don't let em play their games.definately don't settle for a truck unless it's what u want,there will be other deals and some may even be better,they count on u being impatient.

RICK is 100% correct and I bet there are a ton of ppl on this board who will all agree with this simple formula:


impatience = $ in the dealers pocket

or

patience = savings to you


the longer you can play the waiting game, the more desperate they will become to give you a good deal.
 
Patience paid off for me. Originally, I wanted a V8 SR5 in Pacific Blue Metallic. The dealer could not find one anywhere near hear so they tried to convince me about the V6. In my case, full-time 4WD was something of importance so I told them it wouldn't work. They then came back and told me that if I was willing to take a V8 Sport Edition only in Silver, because they had three sitting on the lot, they would do it for the same price as a V8 SR5. So, being patient definitely pays off!! ;):
 
So, Saturday has come and gone.....How did it go? Did ya get a great deal? Ya can't just leave us hanging after asking for help!!:D

They basically can't find a color I like. So I'm waiting to see what they say next. I should talk to the sales rep. today. I posted earlier and explained with a little more detail. I'm holding my ground for the color I want!

It's so frustrating when two dealer right here in Indy have the exact car I want. They can't/won't go near Carmax's offer, nor do they dealer trade with them!

I did try carsdirect, the dealer they sent me to only wanted to give me 17k for my car! Carmax is willing to pay 24. Which is still low, but I only pay tax on the difference between the two. That helps big.

Just play it cool when you talk to the sales guy on the phone next time. Tell him/her that you are going to expand your search and talk to a couple dealers outside of Indy since they aren't able to find the vehicle you've specified. Be sure to thank him/her for their time in working with you and then hang up. I bet they call you back in a couple days with some good news. Don't feel bad about cutting them off, since they don't have the vehicle you want, you aren't going to do business with them anyway. If anything this just gives them a kick-in-the-ass to get motivated to find the vehicle for you.

How far away (in terms of price) is the dealer who has the vehicle away from the CarMax price ???


Isn't CarMax the place that will buy your car even if you don't buy a new one from them? If so, why not sell them your car for $24k or whatever their offer is and then go to the other dealer and buy the 4Runner.

Carmax was 29998 for a V8 SE, sticker was $35100. They were going to give me 24k for my car. I would only need to pay sales tax on 6k if I trade with them. The dealers in my area are $1500 to 2k more than Carmax for the same car. That means I'm paying more for the car, in the color I can't live without, PLUS, sales tax on a 30k vehicle. I can't take that much of a hit. I'm already loses a little by trading an 05 in for an 05. I find it real hard to believe that they can't find a V8 Sport in the Chicago area!

On the other hand, white isn't THAT bad! I've just never considered it on a car before now.
