I need more light!

Now my response for what it's worth and I don't know why there was a topic since you are just bashing everybody's answer and have your own mind made up before you posted...

I’m not bashing at all, I’m simply not interested in the things I started the thread with the first post saying I wasn’t interested in.
 
OK, let's try again. I really don't care about that jughead in the vid you posted, because if that's your idea of information, well ....

Again, how exactly did "they" accomplish "mimicing" a halogen filament with an LED? Because those two light sources could not be more different in how they create/emit light.

Now if you want to buy them, I could care less, just hate to see misinformation posted.


The new version of the Philips LED chip is almost the same size and shape as a halogen filament, hence the source of light coming from roughly the same area in reference to source placement in the reflector, which in turn is more aimed and keeps a better (closer to stock) bulb pattern. If a video of an actual comparison showing measured light output and bulb pattern is to be completely dismissed then what “information” are you going off of? Come on, share your vastly superior more creditable knowledge about the newest technology going into LEDs.

I didn’t save any specific links since most of the reading I e done was on my phone while traveling, but Google Philips Lumileds Z ES and start reading. I’m hoping to find feedback from people that have used bulbs with that chip (there’s on a couple on the market at this point) in our application/specifically with our reflector.

I did as you suggested. Interesting. The examples I found show the LED panels housed longitudinally/vertically which emulate the orientation of an HID capsule, and were tested in projector-type headlamps, not reflector-types.

Late-model reflector headlights are designed for halogen bulbs, with only a rare few Euro-cars an exception. I agree these LED bulbs look attractive, and reasonably-priced, but since you have reflectors, I'd encourage you to purchase with a damned good return policy.

(1) No (I repeat NO) LED kit on the market produces anywhere the amount of useable light output that an HID kit does. I know it's very common for vendors to quote theoretical lumens about how many lumens their HID kits products, but the numbers quote in no way resemble the true lumens that the bulbs actually produce.

(2) LED bulbs are getting better. The nice thing about Philips ZES chips (we've bee using them for about 2 years now is that their miniature and un-domed design (not COB) allows us to replicate the size and location of a halogen filament. As for ALL LED bulbs, they work really well in certain housings (reflector too), and not as well in others.

(3) Lumens: A stock halogen H11 bulb is rated at approximately 1200 lumens (I believe). Our H11 LED pro kits produce about 1700~ lumens (stable), so they are about 40% brighter then your stock H11 halogen bulb. A 4300k HID bulb produces about 3200 lumens, so they produce approximately 250% more light then your stock H11 halogen bulb. Reflective headlights do not have as defined of a cut off as as projector headlights do, so any additional light produced above the cutoff would be considered as "glare". You can see how going with an LED kit that is closer to the light output of a H9 Halogen bulb could be a better solution then going with an HID kit that produces significantly more.

I do not have any beam pattern pics of our LED kit installed in a 4runner reflective housing, but take a look at this review of an H4 LED kit installed in a Tunda reflective housing:

Just something to keep in mind re Lumileds ZES:

- Many of the bulbs claiming to use these chips are using fake chips

- They are available in different kelvin temperatures and CRI. We use 5500K diodes with a 70CRI rating

- We position the diodes in the same exact spot as a halogen filament - where the diodes are positioned will have a tremendous effect on the pattern.

- Heat dissipation is key! - Regardless of what LED diodes are used, if they can't be kept cool, then they will dim, and dim fast. Basically, you'll have more light output from your stock H11 halogen bulbs.

I'm not looking to get into a debate as to whether kits should be installed or not, but you asked for feedback...
