I need suggestions guys!! OME 890 swap

What's up guys. I'll jump right into it, a 9 months ago i upgraded my suspension, my set up:
front: billy 46s, ome 880
rear: billy 46s, ome 906s later replaced with 890s.

As mentioned in my set up i replaced the 906s with 890s bc not only the ride was i little too rough for me but i noticed a slight reverse rack that i didn't like but with the 890s i liked the ride quality much better but with them also theres a rake which at first didn't seem to bother me but i can't pretend it does't bother me anymore, i'd like the truck sit level.
Now what spring i can get that will give me 2" of lift and a descent ride quality? Thanks in advance.

No spring suggestions... but, the Bilstein 4600's are not going to be the best shocks for any lifts. They are fairly specific in saying factory ride height only. 4Runner specific 5100's will probably make the ride more comfortable (meant for a 2" lift). A small trim spacer in the front or removing the rear overload bumper will probably fix your ride height, depending on whether you want to go up or down.

i agree with using the 5100s all the way around. also the 881 front spring is a closer level match to the 890s. several people also use the tundra trd front shock/spring with 890 in rear

I'm running the Tundra 5100/TRD Tundra springs up front with the OME 890's in the rear.

With some cheap O'reilly brand (gabriel) shocks that are for a Land cruiser(Rear)

My favorite configuration of all so far (on #3 3rd gen)

I have a slight positive rake with my setup (described in my sig) and I think that as much as you want your rig to sit completely level, you should consider a bit of a rake as well.

The reason for this is to give you some wiggle room for when you carry passengers or some cargo in the back. It doesn't take much weight to bring the rear down by an inch or two. If your truck sits level while unloaded, it'll just end up looking like it's bottoming out with 3 grocery bags in the cargo area.

OP, if you don't mind a question. I'd like to know what is the ride height difference between the 906s and the 890s you swapped in? As you kept everything else the same the measurement should be valid.

And your impression of ride between the 2? Thanks.

No rake here

I'm running the same spring set up as you but with OME Nitrocharger shocks.
Level as can be. Almost sags under heavy cargo. Almost.
...Maybe consider swapping shocks instead.

What he said with center of hub to bottom of fender please. This will negate any tire differences.

This is so confusing/worrysome.....I have spent literally probably +100 hrs researching what shock/spring I want. This is the first post I found saying that Bilstein 4600's are specific to stock height. I found all kinds of posts where people are using them with positive results with 906's. Help me out please as my 4600 just arrived today and my 906's should be here any day. AAAAAAAAGGGGGGHHHHH

I'm running 880's and 906's giving me 1/2" of rake. I'm 1" higher in the front over stock and 2" higher in the rear (yes, my rear was sagging!) I'm running Rancho 9000XL all around I'm I'm liking the ride. It's been 10 months, plenty of time for the springs to settle and I'm pleased.

I'm thinking the same thing as others here, maybe your dissatisfaction should be more directed towards the shocks and not the springs. I'm quite pleased with the 906's. Or maybe my rear springs were so bad they just feel so much better...

My understanding from what I've read is that rear lift shocks that are specifically made for 3rd gen 4runners, such as the bilstein 5100 24-249966, are for 0-2" of lift meaning they will work for stock springs (OEM 99 talls) up to a 2" lift (OME 906). If that is truly the case, than it seems that a stock rear shock (oem, 4600, etc) will work for stock springs up to a 2" lift spring. To get the most benefit from a 2" lift spring/coil, having the appropriate length shock that is made for a 0-2" lift might be best but a stock shock will also work.

If you can exchange your 4600 for bilstein 24-249966 or any other 0-2" lift shock for a 3rd gen then maybe go that route but if it means having to spend more $ than what you're comfortable with, the 4600 shouldn't be an issue especially if you have seen others with that set up without complaints.

I'm confused as to why people are suggesting the OP use shocks to change his ride height. Unless you're using struts with adjustable perches, the shocks shouldn't change ride height.

I didn't get the impression from other comments that shocks were being suggested to change ride height. I think the suggestions were to match an appropriate rear shock to a lift spring.

Ah, maybe I mis-understood. I thought the OP was asking for suggestions for a 2" lift rear spring, and I thought people were suggesting he change his shocks.

They are pretty specific about it on the Bilstein website. 4600's are for stock height, better comfort and control from stock stuff:

Bilstein, Innovation and High Quality Since 1873
Bilstein, Innovation and High Quality Since 1873

They are also fairly soft (though the 4600's on my truck are now ~10 years old...) and may not control the 906 springs very well. They were a nice (though subtle) upgrade when the truck needed new shocks many years ago.

My understanding (though I have nothing to back this up) is that they have different valving depending on piston stroke - which means the ride height matters for comfort/control.

FAAAAACCCKKKK MEEEEEEEE in the ass! GDMFR....how the hell did I not see this?? Oh I know...I was searching all over about what shocks guys used and different tests etc. Well I guess I will be spending some money to send back my 4600's and get the 5100's. This is what f'n sucks so bad about living in bum F no where with no shops around. faaaaack.

Thanks for the input...I will be posting the hell out of that info every place I can!!

How much lift did this give you?

I have 906's and 880's with 4600's and no problems. Don't over think it you'll be fine.
