Mercedes can ONLY be owned when the vehicles are covered under a warranty. They are the least reliable brand vehicles on the market and cost SILLY money to maintain. They only make good status symbols.

I agree. Unless I was so rich it didn't matter, I just can't see investing that much money into something that can be totaled by one deer...

Hey! That hurts!!:(

Well, i can't disagree...it's true for most MB cars. The new GL class is made in Alabama, just like the M-class. They share the same platform (unibody, independent suspensions). Here is the link for more info/reviews:

BTW, the GL is actually cheaper than the Toyota Land Cruiser. Base model actually costs less than 2 4runners. Of course, you can add a lot of options on the GL-class to make it expensive, but it's base MSRP is actually cheap. It costs around the same as a loaded GX470.

I checked out the new GL recently at my local MB dealership. It's not a bad SUV. It is more mainstream than what i have in my garage. It has good room and space. It is more like an Acura MDX/Volvo XC90-type vehicle than an off-roader. However, it does have an optional off-road package that includes off-road MT tires, center and rear lockers, and low range.

Sorry Thai! My buddy has all the money in the world and owns a S600 (twin turbo V12) and he has told me about how the Stealer had the nerve to try and charge him (silly money) for some warranty work.

Nah, i know what you mean. Stealer of any manufacturer of any price will screw you.:bash: But, a luxury brandname will screw you in a polite way...and you may not even know it! You just wonder why your ass is sore after coming home from the dealership.:biggrin2:

Personally I think MB is going a little too far down the multi-model, Chrysler road. The R class looks like a Chrysler Pacifica to me, and the GL class looks like a Grand Cherokee on steroids.

Still like the redesigned M class though. A great feat of engineering, very comfortable, and it drives extremely well. We'll see how reliability holds up tho... not sure how long the 7-speed bells'n'whistles tranny will last.

For a big SUV, I'd rather have a Landcruiser (preferabley an older Euro diesel version).

My Dad drives a 2004 (I believe) CL 55 AMG and he has had zero problems with it. Other than a dead battery one time, and in that case the MB dealer had a guy drive out to the house with a new battery and replace it for him in the garage. That is pretty good service if you ask me.

Actually, this is what I call big. :D

Yes it is real...

Talk about silly money. I called MB Dealer today to ask about 2 very small dome lite covers. They were 25 bucks each. Made of clear plastic. Probally cost about 50 cents to make. But the kicker was this. I said do the lite bulbs come with them? The bulbs are about the size you would find in a regular size flashlight. The answer was no of course...they are 28 bucks each!! Unless I become very rich this will be my last MBZ. You can only take so much shafting. Cool cars when they run. But they will punish your wallet when they don't.
