Ok so ive had my SS 1.2 kit with the 33's for a couple of months now and still want to go bigger...not 35's, but 37's.

I remember on my previous post everyone said it couldnt be done without a solid axle swap but didnt really provide technical reasons why not. I think 37's can work with the IFS.

Heres my plan of attack. First off i know ill have to do a fair bit of cutting on the front bumper at the lower corners. Also the rear fender area where the wheel wells meet the body will need trimming/rewelding. Ill need more lift and dont really want a BL. My thoughts were to add a 2" spacer to the top of the shock/spring assembly on the fronts only, then replace my 1" diff drop kit with some 3" spacers. The fender flares might have to be trimmed as well as purchasing some low offset wheels(probably 17's.) Im not really worried about the strength of the axles or the steering rack having enough power since i dont really take it offroad. I took it to a buddy who fabricates off road buggies and asked his opinion and he said it will be close but should work...and that the tires might rub the inner box frame but shouldnt be any worse than what their lifted jeeps do.

Now...i know i am missing something and am about to get flammed:flamethrwoer2: In fact i encourage it. If i am crazy/stupid enough to try this i would at least like everyones opinion on what to expect will cause me the biggest problems. Just please back up your suggestions with technical reasons not like saying "it just wont work because joe bob tried it and said it wont".

Cheers.

Might as well take the plunge and do it. It doesn't seem like you will be really happy until you do it. Gl.

What size do you plan to run? With top notch ifs components they should fair well on the road. You will most likely be hindered on the trail however.

Couple criticisms, replacing the 1" diff drop is a bad idea. The differential arms are not designed to drop that far, take the bolts out and pull it down, you'll see what i mean. Also, adding 2" spacers to your existing assembly will spell an early death, that will be a good deal of pressure on the strut and that will expand to the components, where its going to be looking to disperse the added pressure. It will end up binding around the weakest point of distribution, usually the tie rods and/or cv joints.

If you are serious about running them I would start upgrading parts with a long term mindset. Bushings all around are first, inspect the steering rack, sways, ball joints (maybe look into uca/lca aftermarket). May be a good idea to be familiar with changing out cvs. If you don't stick with the OEM autozone offers a lifetime replacement, so anytime you break you're only a trip and a swap away. You'll more than likely be changing out more often with aftermarkets though, but it mostly depends on driving habits.

Let us know how it goes, I am already planning mine

I am not trying to flame you, just curious.

Why do you not want a body lift? It seems that is the most appropriate way to gain a lot of clearance.

Why on earth would you want 37" tires if you don't take it offroad? Spend more for gas, a ton for parts, and prematurely wear out your rig just for looks? Bro, your rig looks great already.

OK here is my suggestion to help with clearance issues and would also help if you did take it off-road, of course budget would have to be open. Get teh Total Chaos long travel kit that will give you the additional width to help the fram rub. You will end up with Fiberglass fenders so you wont have to cut up your stock ones in case you chose to put a milder lift on later down the road and go back to 33's. of course with fenders axles and the TC kit you are looking at about 4k-5K which is still half of what a Solid Axle Swap would run. I mean heck if you are willing to spend 300+ a tire for 37's seems like you have extra money to burn. Don't forget to regear to 5.29's

Id like to go with 37x? Whats the equivillant of a 285 width?

As far as changing axles...i did that as soon as i installed the lift. I now have Oriellys new Chinese axles, been working well for the last 1000 mi on the hwy with the ss 1.2 lift. I also had my OEM toyota ones rebuilt just for incase. I replaced the steering rack bushings with ES 10101 polyurethane units, as well as the front swaybar bushings.

Thanks for the compliment, just tired of every ford f250 towering 2ft above me at the stoplight....small penis syndrome i guess lol.

Maybe i should do a BL. As it sits currently the front is exactly 2" lower than the rear, and i hear about it all the time from my buddies. Do you guys think i can get away with a 2" front only BL? I could have some tapered spacers fabricated(kinda like the diff drop kit), wonder if id need some in-between size middle spacers for the middle of the chassis...you know, progressively working its way forward to the 2" front BL(make sense???)

Total Chaos long travel kit? Hmm, got a linky???

If you decide to move forward PLEASE!!!!! make sure you take lots of photos as you go along. This would be a great chance for anyone who would like to do the same in the future. I agree with the above post.. You're rig looks sweet as is. But 37s???? HELL YES!!!!!! :driving:
