Such foolishness! I hate wheeling with nothing but 4Runners, too boring. Variety is fun and I'll take a pull from anyone willing to help.

Funny thing is you will too unless you'd rather spend a night stuck somewhere. If that's the case your "pride & manhood" may be found too late someday!

The oil does look like water got into it. the oil has a white brown look. also very cloudy type appearance. if you use conventional oil the water will not separate. synthetic oil the water does not get absorbed .

the oil if with water will cause engine noises.

if you did inject water into the intake a valve may have bent or the compression chamber pressure got so high with the water sucked in it may have blown out the head gasket / if that is what happened.

check compression . I doubt a scan tool will do much.
 
After getting my mighty Max back from it's repair, i checked the air cleaner filter nice and dry,then changed the Mobil 1 and filter even with no sign of water.

And my Max had died with engine covered with water,then about 1/2 hour after setting in the water i was able to restart it still in the water, and drive to it to higher dry ground.

Three years later it is still running great, but i sure avoid any quick rising waters.

How can water enter the Toyota's oil and not my Max's oil?
 
I'm not sure how water could get in the oil as OP is thinking. I quess if it had a leaky gasket and stayed in the water for a long time it's possible. Don't think it ingest water either as shallow as the water was. I'd like to here the outcome and I hope his fears are far worse than the repairs.

I don't understand how that caused a problem. This is something I do frequently w/o problems. Then again, it's water and not mud.

see where you're fog lights are? Mine were underwater. I just think I pushed it too hard trying to get unstuck and ****ed something up.
 
Understood. My photo is at the beginning of the crossing, typically it tops out at the top edge of my bumper / right below the headlights, I have ruined headlights though. Sorry this happened but I hVe to say thanks for reminding me how much IH8MUD.

I took it to Toyota today. I told them my whole situation and they went in the back and brought out a rather young guy, maybe 30 years old and he looked at the oil I brought him. He had me crank it up and rev it up a bit and he said it sounded like a spun bearing, it was coming from the lower part of the motor. He basically said buy a new engine cause if it was a bearing issue then all that metal was inside the engine.

a spun bearing report with no engine breakdown could be not the exact issue. usually a crank bearing failure would be due to low oil /no oil and operating at a high RPM. the bearing heats up then being a soft metal starts to breakdown and damage the crankshaft .

did they remove the valve covers check for oil flow on all the lifters .

perhaps your uncle can help with some engine troubleshooting.

a spun bearing would cause the oil pressure to be low at idle very low.
 
Not exactly. I got coolant into the intake of my ranger , just a little bit and that caused a spun bearing. Either way you are hard boned. Good luck with a new engine. It'll be a fun learning experience with your uncle.

All Toyota did was listen for 45 seconds

Not that hard. Listen to the video. That sound in real life, coming from the bottom of the engine means spun main bearing.

Basically. I'm fine with replacing my engine. I had the light ticking while idleing(sounded like a small diesel engine, so hopefully I get rid of that as well. So, what do I do with my old engine besides using it for parts? Do i sell it? Do I let it sit in my backyard for years? Do I toss it? lo

Actually, I've over the price already. I just have to come up with the money, I've accepted this. I'm kind of excited I get to learn how to swap an engine.

Does your oil have metal flakes in it? I cannot tell from the pics.

Im not saying this is your problem, but before you pull your engine out you should check and see if one of your pulleys is bad.

I drove my old 4runner in water and the pulley and alternator pulley went bad. made a horrible noise but was NOT the engine.
