I think I win the "who can put the most gas in their tank" competition...

Dont feel bad i get around 15mpg on a v6 with only lift and 285/70-17 p rated toyo tires. And supposedly people get 18 19mpg yeah ok. Even when it was completely stock. I was averaging 17-19mpg

I averaged 19+ on my V8 when it was stock. Big tires and a lead foot coupled with stock gearing = low mpg though.

We have almost identical setups. I have an '04 V8 on 275/70/17s too LOL. And you're actually averaging 12mpg?

Well my calculations usually come out to be around 11.5 most of the time actually. But someone else told me that the 275's are 5% bigger than stock so gotta account for that and the odometer is now off also. Every 1 mile only registers as .9. So maybe I'm getting ~13.5mpg

Your tires shouldn't cost you that much in mileage. Something else is going on. A 275/70/17 is 32.2" in diameter. I just put 255/75/17 BFG KO2's on my '06, which are 32" in diameter, almost the same as yours. I averaged 19.5 mpg from front range Colorado across the mountains on I-70 to Grand Junction and back last week.

I don't buy the idea that AT tires or 5-7% oversize will cost you 2-4 mpg as is often said on this forum. I just have never seen it, on either of my 4runners. My '94 on 33" BFG AT's gets 20 mpg on that same trip. You do have to account for the odometer error when calculating mileage, of course.

I have a GPS unit and I get my mileage from that. I reset it everytime I fill up. Then I devide miles traveled by gallons to fill. So, 250/21=11.9 or whatever your specific numbers are.

I wasn't necessarily doubting your mileage figures. I'm just doubting that going from 19 to 12 mpg is caused by the tires. There's just no physical reason that should happen.

Depending on how often your GPS samples position and calculates mileage, it could give erroneous readings if you're driving a circuitous route and it's measuring straight-line distances at a fairly low sample rate. I'd calibrate the odometer against some interstate mileposts, and then compare that to your GPS readings.

I used to reset my trip odometer and divide it out to see if the percentage was accurate, it always was and after a year I stopped. I have 35" tires that are 3x heavier than stock. My stock tires and rims were 38lbs a piece, my current tire and rim combo is 108lbs a piece. I'm also nearly 9" taller and have trimmed my front bumper down. It's a brick going down the road. Stock these are fairly air streamed, lifting ruins that then add in tires and weight, it's all done. I get about 15mpg with the cruise set at 58 over long distances, 9mpg at anything over 80mph. I don't even try to calculate it in city, it's about 6...lol

I get 15.7 average almost every tank back and forth to work (city). I took a trip this summer that was 900 miles combined and averaged 19.8 for over 3 tanks. Mostly all highway loaded with 4 adults and all our luggage. Can't complain one bit about that. Both my 3rd gens got about the same. I hand calculate my miles. The lie-o-meter in the dash is about 2mpg off...

How about this pic

You might use more gas but I definitely spend more money

That's about US $86 at the current Exchange rate

This will last probably a week for me
