I was pleasantly surprised with the V8 gas mileage

First tank refill, approx 50/50 hwy and around town, a few start-ups, moving the Sport4Runner into the garage and around with all the intense snow storms the last month.

I averaged 18.25 mpg. :

This was far better than my three liter Toyota V6 pickup in and out of four wheel drive during all the storms.

Certainly, I hope the 18.25 mpg keep up or gets better with further break-in.

Pleasantly surprised.

Yes, 18.25 is very good. I'm getting about 16.5 so far, but it's all been in city, no long highway drives yet.
I can live with 16-18. The V8 is worth it, imho.

Just curious, how do you guys keep track of the MPG? Do you reset the MPG info every time you fill the gas tank?

I have kept record of the miles and gas consumed for every single gas stop I made since I got the car new in 2003. I have been getting 15mpg mostly city driving, and about 12 mpg for towing ~4,500lbs highway.

I divide the miles driven between fill-ups by the gallons to fill the tank.
In my case it's only been 3 fill-ups so far.

My remote start costs me quite a bit of gas too. Wish I had a garage space so I don't need to run the engine that long in winter days. But garage spaces were taken up by the wife's car and my race car. I need a 3+car garage house.

It's early in the game and that was the first tankfull.

I start the 4Runner up, wait about ten seconds and I'm off. No idling. :

Let's just say, 'very short idle'.

This keeps the gas consumption down. :

Exact same situation here with the mpg , couldn't be happier. Not bad at all for full time 4wd V8.

On my second tank of fuel, I was driving 85% city and 15% hwy in extremely cold temps, the mpg actual was 16.20

From what I've read and previously experienced, the hwy rather than city driving is easier on the mileage for the V8 as with most of vehicles.

I'm sure both my readings were in line with what others have experienced with their miles per gallon and the V8.

Yep shouldn't need to let your 4Runner idle for very long in cold temps. If you are really worried about it, then buy a block heater.
