WOW. He had an icestorm a couple years back that did similar damage to the trees... Luckily our trees were not mature monsters such as those...

Damn that is terrible.

Usually insurance deals end up in YOUR favor for this kind of thing. Would be classified under acts of god (comprehensive coverage) and if you are not happy with the insurance company appraisal make sure you get a independent appraisal and also getting recent prices that 4runners sold for in your area will help along with current prices from craigslist.org and cars.com.

I wish I had the means to chop the back off and make a 4runner pickup but I think its part out time. It had a new aisin clutch, kyb shocks, lbj's(oem), timing belt, radiator, etc... I was hoping to make some of my money back when I sold her but nature stepped in and made the call. It was uninsured but it looks like the tree's owner's, my neighbor's insurance covers me(so they say). More pics to come when its safe to get closer.

Well hopefully the book value will cover what you had. They generally don't take in to account your mods, but sometimes.

Now if your dad was a TV repairman...
 
Ouch. I feel your pain. Ontario is taking a kicking right now. I have been lucky with only terrible ice and snow and bad roads. I just got off the phone with relatives in the Guelph area and the whole area has been without power for 10 hours or more. They lost a lot of huge trees too. Stay safe and hopefully insurance will save the day (as much as is possible anyway).
 
If you have the stock parts, I would get busy swapping them back in because the insurance company will give you little to nothing for the upgrades.

yeah, this , i was forced to buy the 4runer back just to be able to get all of my stuff of it, if you have the stock parts or it might even be a good idea to go to a pull a part and get some cheap replacements if you have no further plans for the truck and don't want to deal with having to part it out after you've gotten your upgrades back....

if i would have done that i could have actually saved a few bucks and done some nice upgrades with the left over money, insurance will not take into account the parts you have replaced and the work you have done , so might as well swap the bad parts in and use them for the new ones provided that they were not damage in the accident.....

you should try and fire it up just for fun to see if it's still drivable.

i feels bad bro, lol

Also keep in mind that they will be towing off the ride and the insurance company could really give less of a crap about the vehicle other than scrap.

So, certain parts could just be removed and not replaced without them ever noticing or caring.
 
I actually started driving to Toronto on Saturday and then decided to head back with the current road conditions and the impending doom promised by the forecast!

I lost a tree too, but I've still got my 4runner. What are you doing with the parts?
 
Thanks for the kind words everyone. Gonna wait to hear from insurance. If they give me enough money I'll grab a few things and let her go but if they low ball me I'll strip her down as much as I can while keeping it towable(if this happens I'll sell/give awayl what I can). I have some of the old parts like the lbj's, the ITRE's and OTRE's but i had to destroy the old shocks to get'em out. I'm not gonna bother with the clutch. I can swap the rad, wires easily enough. When the ice situation is safe I'll go out and try to fire her up, she wont make it very far cause both drivers side tires blew out from the tree impact.
